It was fun to marathon season one but I am watching every week for every show as usual. I just can't wait!

Yeah, that's usually what I try to do as well. But I figure I'll make an exception for a few shows this season, just so I can "discuss" them week-by-week with fellow fans.

Ah, it's going to be a pain to wait. Btw, have you seen the first season?

I enjoyed it too, can't wait for the next one. Lots of fun stuff, cute moments. Only thing is, Chihaya seems almost secondary.

I thought so too, now that they established the new members hopefully Chihaya can step back into the spotlight.

I certainly hope so, though it's nice that they're giving time to introduce the new characters into the fold.

I quite like the new guy, his creepy mannerisms were quite funny.

It was really good but it is more about Karuta, the game based upon the 100 classic poems. It is a sports anime really.

I think pretty much almost everyone that's posting in this thread would tell you that the 1st season was good, lol. Also, if you are watching this for romance, u might be a bit disappointed, as this is more centered on the main characters involvement with the game of Karuta than on the romance aspect. However, the drama and the battles can be quite intense. I would try watching at least some more episodes, it might get a little more interesting for you.

LOL I found that funny too

So far I'm liking season 2. I wasn't sure how the addition of the characters was going to affect the dynamic of the first group. I'm happy the fears I had on the first episode are subsiding with Sumire.

Anyone here who wants to play Karuta, and owns a DS, there is a game:

Touch de Tanoshimu Hyakunin Isshu: DS Shigureden for DS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgUdZJnco-s

I am playing it, but haven't memorized anything. I am just going on the syllables, but later in the game, the opponents are hitting the cards before the second half (what's on the cards in front of you) is even read.

I'm learning Japanese, so this is a fun way to listen and recognize the characters a lot quicker.

Beginner mode has four cards on the screen. I can get through the first two rounds in beginner mode by listening. They will read the second half of the poem, so you could hear the syllables for the second half and hit the right card out of four cards. Rounds 3-5 in beginner mode assume you memorized the poems, and the third round the girl will hit the card at about the last syllable in the first half of the poem, but the characters for the second half is already showing on the screen (become a match game if you did not memorize). The fourth round, she hits the card about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the first half of the poem. The first character of the second half will appear on the screen about a second before she hit. Round 5 is impossible to make it though without memorizing it. He will hit at about the half way point in the first half of the poem.

Intermediate mode has 6 cards, you really need to memorize before playing even the first round. The hard mode is about 8 cards on the screen, and it gives about about 15-20 seconds to memorize the positions before it starts.

There is a mode that will read the poems to you, all 100, so you can memorize them. You can also read them at your pace too if you choose to memorize them that way.

I like the game, and I think it might help me memorize the hiragana a lot better than I have it down now. I find myself learning a lot more of the characters and the sounds.

I wish the beginner mode had a few more rounds where they read the second half. Like a mode that you can play without an opponent and it times you.

bump - sorry but ummm todays episode guys?.

I know, for such a passionate base of fans that count down on the guest boards how many days/hours/minutes until the next episode, there's not a lot of discussion here. Yet I always feel like there's lots to discuss.

Like the fact that after going back and watching much of the first season again, it seems clear to me that "Chihaya x Taichi" is never going to happen. It's so obvious now that, despite him being in love with her since elementary school, she was in love with Arata since the second she bumped into him. I have no idea what would change that. The new girl shamelessly blurted out her intentions for Taichi to Chihaya, and her response was more shock that someone would be motivated by something other than karuta. So the people holding out that Sumire will make Chihaya realize Taichi is "the one across the mat from her," I suspect will be disappointed.

Completely unrelated, but I liked that remark Taichi made to Tsuboguchi about how he didn't want to stay in school too long because "that's the one area you can beat Master Suo." Awesome way to insult both of them.

I wouldn't say that Taichi x Chihaya is never going to happen. It may be clear to you, but it's open to interpretation! We're still hoping here.

Though I agree, it doesn't seem like Sumire will be the catalyst to any realization.

Wow this seems really fun and fascinating! Though if I could read the characters, I'd probably buy a set of karuta cards (a Chihayafuru themed one xD), a recording, and play for real. LOL

You mentioned that you're learning Japanese. Are you taking a class? Or self-learning through the game? Because I really really want to play karuta to the point that I want to try memorizing the sounds and characters of the poems. Not sure if it's possible....100 poems.... ;_;

Oh and just curious, do you know if they hit by the decisive syllable for the hardest level? Or is it like half way of the first half of the poem like you said. It'd be really intense if they did one-syllable cards and stuff haha. xD
