SO GLAD IT WASN'T A CLIFFHANGER.

Although I was expecting more reaction shots from Shinobu Wakamiya; she disappeared, but she couldn't have left at that point without running into Arata Wataya outside. So I'm not sure what happened to her.

I guess she'll show up again next week.

To give episode 19 a proper analysis: Taichi's internal monologues are the best parts of the series. You could feel his desperation and doubt in these lines, "The one card I need is never read. It never is. Is that how my life will go? Is everything I do the futile?" I'm glad he was able to surpass all those dark emotions. As Ryouga said, "He's a Class B on his way up." That line reassures us that Taichi will finally reach Class A this time around. So whoever his opponent will be - whether it be Rion or Retro (forever in Class B like he is, so there's a bigger likelihood he'll be pitted against one of them), I just want good match that continues to prove Taichi's change and growth from the last season.

I have nothing new to say, but oh my that was satisfying. I've gone into the past several episodes hoping the match would be concluded, and yet every time it wasn't I felt no disappointment, just enjoyment of what I had seen, that had seemed to pass so quickly. I almost expected that to happen here, and that would have been fine, but oh, the actual ending was so much better. I am not a squeeing sort of fangirl. I'm not really any sort of fangirl at all, but I confess to some smiles and internal squees nonetheless. Arata and Chihaya face to face. But the best part was all the time spent on Taichi. I'm really glad so much of the episode was devoted to his game.

I am concerned about how things will be covered in the remaining few episodes. I think it will move too quickly and not be fully satisfying if they push through to the end of individual tournaments, plus that would give little time for the relationships. And what about Chihaya's finger? But if they mostly focus on the relationships and don't spend any/much time on actual individual matches then that would be disappointing too--unless there were a not-too-long-in-the-future season 3, but if not I will be so sad. This is very much the sort of thing that would drive me toward the manga to see the rest of the story, if I can find it in English (preferably legally, but I'm not sure that exists).

While I completely enjoyed that episode, it's true that the aftermath of it all has me worried about the direction the creators will take, my first concern being whether or not Chihayafuru will be cleared for a third season. I think there's plenty of room for character development now, which is something I've been wishing for a little bit more of this season, yet six or so more episodes of high-level karuta sounds good, too. Chihayafuru is unique in that it's a shoujo manga that stems from obvious shounen influences, so it's hard to really say what I'd want to see more of moving forward... I love it all, haha.

I just hope the reception and sales of this season are strong enough to warrant some more animation work. Watching something as good at this fall victim to business woes would be heartbreaking for any anime fan... :/

THAT EPISODE 19!
Best episode of the week and I am slightly behind most episodes ha.
Watched Attack on Titan episode 7 and people say that was AMAZING but nooooo way as amazing as Chihayafuru!
Now I have no idea whats going to happen next and I don't read the manga so please no spoilers but I hope the direction of the series won't be bad!

Yes! That ep was amazing! I loved how Chihaya fell asleep after her match, lol! But even better was how she woke up just in time to see the end!! And "it's not over until the second verse is read" Perfect!

Oh my goodness, my heart is still racing! Running into Arata like that... I am totally watching this on repeat for the rest of the week.

Wow so I took a break for a while so I could watch a few episodes in a row. 17-19 what an amazing ride. I love the correlation with Tachi's feelings and the final poem read. Chihaya woke up just in time to celebrate it was really touching.

Then the reunion with Arata... that didn't start off the way I expected it too. I could just imagine her going bonkers and making Tachi feel terrible, but the way she was talking sorta sounded like "don't look down on me" because he didn't respond to her about watching their match.

ARGGG back to waiting a week to watch the episodes, frankly I'm surprised I lasted as long as I did.

Just watched the most recent non-premium episode, and I have to say I think that's the best episode produced out of all the anime I have watched this season. It was excellent!

What amazing foreshadowing. I remember reading some comments around the start of season 2 expressing dislike for Sumire, but I think she's been a fun addition to the cast.

I'm so excited to see what's coming next that I was a little frustrated when the recap segment appeared. But that episode had enough good calm or humorous moments that it worked as a reset of the tension after the team tournament.
