Yep, I'm glad many people thought the same thing as me. It was when I saw a picture of 99RadioService that I realized it was a guy singing...>_<

No.. it's a guy that sings the OP in both Season 1 and 2. A lot of people (including my husband) thought it was a girl singing

I knew it was a guy! And it sounds like a guy, just singing in his upper range.

I only just now managed to catch up on the final two episodes of the second season of Chihayafuru... and wow! I LOVE THIS SHOW!

The next season had better appear soon preferably with a bit more love-triangle development, further improvement and achievements by all the Mizusawa team, and Chihaya getting closer to beating Shinobu - and hopefully playing against Arata

LOL Nah it's the same as last season. Opening is sung by the same group in Season 1 and Season 2. and Ending by the same chick (hmm group? or just singer?.. never noticed honestly). LOL no if that's a guy at the end .. omg..

And agreed. I always thought it was a dude sing the the OP but hubby being a dude was going "no way.."

Haha okay, good! For a moment there I was concerned lmao XP
And has he watched any anime? If not I could understand more

U know when I first heard the OP, I was actually confused. I was thinking, though, that it was possibly a girl. I mean, there are people like Cher (that have a bit of a masculine singing voice), so I didn't want to rule out the possibility, lol!

On another note, it's nice to see this thread still around even though the 2nd season is long over!

LOL Hubby and I have been married for over 16 years now and been watching anime since the 1970's So yeah he's watched anime before.

LOL I've been marathoning the series again. I do skip around now though. I skip the middle section of the season 2.. (especially that loooooooooong match with Girls High because I reaaaaaaaaally don't like .. da bitch :p )

Btw ran into someone I've never met before on twitter who also loved Chihayafuru and were talking about the translation to the Hyakunin Isshu. I suggested that they should do an OVA of just Kana teaching Chihaya in the Oe Kimono store about the meaning of each of the 100. I'd totally watch that!

Loved the show, great character development and all, but can't help and think that a little more time spent on showing the characters outside of karuta would've been nice. I would've loved to have seen the characters interacting with others at school or something like that but oh well. Still great either way!

So then... are u on Team Arata or Team Taichi?

If you would've asked me this at the beginning of the series (when flashbacks of them as kids were shown for like 6 episodes) I would definitely, without a doubt, screamed ARATA!!! But as the show went on Taichi definitely is who I'm rooting for. Judging from episode 25 though where.....

I was just like . Seriously, I was thinking her feelings for Arata were more like 'sensei and student' but no...no those words all but confirmed my worst fears lol. I almost started hating Chihaya with a passion for a while during the series, because of her complete oblivious attitude and how she was all about Arata when Taichi is always there for her and more. She DID go to his Class B final though instead of Arata's thing so she redeemed herself for me there haha but yeah, episode 25 wasn't a good episode for me for that above sentence lol. How about yourself?

Well, I'm going for the King and Queen pairing, since I think it's almost inevitable that Arata will become King of Karuta, and Chihaya will become Queen of Karuta in the future. Thus, I think it makes for the potentially best and most magical kind of ending. Also, I think it'll go well with the reasoning why I believe this series is called Chihayafuru, and the deeper meaning (of the love/passion) of the Chihaya card (as it was kinda touched upon in the last ep). Either way, I just hope that Chihaya ends up happy with whomever she (hopefully) ends up with in the end.

The actual phrasing was more ambiguous than the translation would suggest, but I do think it's fair to say that Chihaya is leaning more towards Arata than Taichi and that we'll see more development in that area in the next season.

Just need to wait for the manga to get ahead first.

Chapter 116 is so good! Shows the game is about so much, so multi-faceted! Love the manga, can't wait for it to get ahead enough for season 3!

BE LOVE 2013 16 seems to be a break for both Chihayafuru and my newfound favorite Akachan no Host josei manga (more josei than Chihayafuru usually is though lately Chihayafuru is more josei than it's been) is also on a break so it seems I will be able to skip the 8/15 edition and just get the 9/1 issue 17 of the year.

OVA comes out this September but unless I've missed it there hasn't been a synopsis or PV released yet.

I just did a marathon of the first season yesterday. God, this show is so freakin fun to watch. I even looked up professionals playing Karuta.

Aahahahahah I did too! I believe someone posted a video here and I kinda spent the rest of the day trolling Youtube for more videos. SCARY how close it is to the anime.. I thought they were doing their normal exaggeration of things.. I was totally floored!

Btw pulley I sorta cheated.. now I'm totally freaking out and hope Season 3 comes soon.. but that's just about impossible given how slow the series comes out in Japan in manga form. Also, thanks for the update on the OVA. I'm still hoping it's different content from the manga (meaning either original content or middle school stuff) because I don't want Season 3 delayed further than it is by having content already taken.
