Being forced to drive, is that okay? What are your opinions?

The idea of driving terrifies me, because I'm well aware of my own poor focus. At least if I'm walking or using public transport and I'm distracted I'm unlikely to hurt anyone apart from myself.

That said, if I ever plan to move outside the city I'll probably learn to drive; though, I'll still be trying to do it as little as possible.

I think you need to learn to drive because there could be an emergancy situation you need to drive in to save a life or to prevent danger

Why would you want to put an unwilling person behind the wheel, you're just asking for them to crash

Seriously, all this is making me hate driving even more and I haven't even started.

Just do it. Think of it as learning a new skill. You'll learn better now than you will later in life when you'll want to learn it (not saying older people can't drive as good but I think you understand what I mean). And driving is such a liberating feeling. I hate mass transit. I love that I can just take my car and go anywhere and to any place and be completely independent.

So even if you hate driving, it's really a good skill to master.

Don't want to drive? Then don't.

Ultimately YOU make that choice.
Don't blame others.

If your city has good public transportation and you are afraid or unwilling to drive, then it's best to just not drive. It's expensive to own a car and if you aren't confident while driving it can be dangerous.

So when your feeling apathetic you just say to yourself: "You know what I'm going to impose on others!" Good grief, people in my generation and younger are such lazy bastards. Guess what? Everything isn't going to be handed to you! Everyone isn't going to keep being put out because of you! Eventually your friends and family are going to say "F$3k it!" and not deal with you anymore. So you decided are you going to be an adult or stay an immature child.

P.S.

You spelling and grammar sucks.

Wow, I can tell New York is so much different from where I live. I haven't met anyone that didn't want to learn to drive but then again in Texas and especially the park of Texas I live in you have to drive everywhere. I live in a rural area where Taxis, Buses, Subways and other public transport are non-existent. If I want or need to do any major shopping the nearest small town is 1 1/2 hour away going 70mph or the nearest place with real sized stores is about 4 hours away going 70-80mph most the way. With the exception of groceries I'm an avid online shopper due in part to this.

So speaking from this point of view I think you should learn to drive, standard too if you get the chance, and once you have the skill its completely your choice if you want to use it or not and may come in handy at a later point in your life; you never know what life will throw at you.

I was forced.

My parents said that I needed the ID to become a full fledged person or something.

On the day of the exam.. I sweated bullets. Two of the people in my school after me up for the exam failed! I was lucky tho and got a different instructor and, well, passed!

You need a driver's license because it is a form of identity unless you want to carry around your passport or birth certificate. To take out money from a bank, to buy alcohol, get married, etc. requires proof of identification. You don't have to drive but its important to have a license regardless....unless of course you plan to live with your parents for the rest of your life.

Also to all men out there. Guys that don't drive or have a car are a real TURNOFF!!!! If your in college and your girlfriend has to drive you everywhere, that is really REALLY LAME!!!! Might as well stamp a loser sign to your forehead.

I like driving quite a lot but when with other people I would prefer if they drive. If anything, so I can sit there and quietly judge them on how terrible they are at it.
