This thing better kick some serious butt

Sony Home Entertainment vice president Hiroshi Sakamoto has teased a PlayStation 4 announcement for May or June this year.

Asked by Chile news site El Mercurio On-Line at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas whether the PlayStation manufacturer is planning a new console announcement this year, Sakamoto said:

“That’s still a big secret, but our friends at Sony Playstation are getting ready. For now, I can only say that we’re focused in the gaming event E3, scheduled for June.

“This announcement can be by then, or even before then, in May.”

Asked if it would be a “major announcement” or “complementary” one, Sakamoto responded: “Probably the first. On that date, we expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May, at least.”

Thanks, NeoGAF.

They won't announce the PS4 on this year's E3. Believe what you want. They will be announcing it within 1-3 years.

The major developers have already said this console is dragging out too long, if Sony takes 1 to 3 years for a new system they're going to lose a lot of support from third parties

I wont consider it next gen unless it got a new media which what sony's next gen was all about....PS1 got CD, PS2 got DVD and PS3 got Bluray....What new media/hardware will PS4 have will probably be the question till it is official.

yeah alot of games are being held back because the ps3 cant handle their engines... its been about 7 years, so its time for a new console. Feb 20 is the announcement date broz

No Sony officially said that the PS3 will stay a years. But who knows what may happen on that day. May be but maybe they are going to show the new PS system. But theres a very low chance for that to happen. So lets us wait and see.

PS4 is being announced on Feb 20th. Guaranteed.

Sony has only held 3 playstation meetings in the past 15 years.

1 was for the Vita. 1 was for the PS3. 1 was for the PS2.

There's no reason for them to hold one if not to announce the ps4.

Edit: Remember, a console's lifespan typically lasts 1-3 years AFTER it's successor comes out - look at the ps2, only stopped being produced last year(another give away they're ready to move on by the way). So a 10 year lifespan for the PS3 would also include that time.
