I've previously lived there for a year, and will do some further studying there. Probably will move there after all that is done. I've had friends who were really eager to go and live there, and when they visit they aren't as impressed with it as they hoped.
Honestly too many people base shit off anime, it's nothing like that, it's just another country. That being said I love Asia and have spent half my life there so, it's always been my plan to move there.

I strongly advise spending more than a month out there before making such a decision. After spending several months out there, I'd say that the upside outweighs the down, but I really treasure the low crime rate. If I accidentally leave a valuable item in a public place, there's basically a 99% chance that it's in that exact same spot untouched, or has been taken to the clerk or a nearby police box or train station help desk.

I'm highly considering moving to Japan. I was there for a month last year and my brother's been there over 2 years now teaching English. I loved everything about it, and felt much safer there than anywhere else in the world, especially America haha. As far as cultural differences, I can deal with paying $1,000.00 a month to live in a closet with a shower connected to my sink and a hot pan for a kitchen because the food is so incredible, there's so much to do, arcades are everywhere, and that's really all I need. I know enough Japanese that I can survive, I'll possibly going out there in Sept. if everything goes as planned!

I for sure want to live there! No doubt for me. There's way too much to experience, to just go back once a year, so I plan (Hopefully!) to apply for a work visa and go from there. I must see real authetic Drifters and eat some takoyaki!!! Also visiting a ninja village or two would be nice ^^

No...I wouldn't wanna live there (it's WAY to expensive to be an Anime fan in Japan). Maybe I'll visit someday, but I have no desire to live there.

I've been to Japan and enjoyed it a lot, but I would never want to live there.
The cities and everything are awesome, but the only thing I really enjoyed was the food.
and if I want good, traditional, Japanese food, I can just go over to my Japanese friends' houses.

I wish I could spend one month in Kyoto in July. There is a one month study abroad program in July (July 8-August 10). I got the funds, vacation time (close to 50 days of time I've accrued over the years), but my currently supervisors have been a huge pain about approving any of my earned vacation time.
Edit: Wow, thinking about that is pretty depressing. I've become a slave to my abusive job. Terrific. I earn these things that in reality I can't actually use. |
