The truth
|
Many people responding are ignorant of what TRUTH actually means.
Truth is not universal. Truth can be objective or subjective. What is true to one person may be a fallacy to another. Who's to say God does not exist to a devout Christian? Who's to say he does to a skeptical atheist? Truth is what someone holds as true. It does not have to be proven. Whereas FACT is reality, it is present in reality. Fact is always objective and can be proven through the senses, science, or deduction. All facts are truths, not all truths are facts. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. |

Sometimes the truth can be too hard for a person to accept, or other hopes, dreams or beliefs can get in the way of accepting the "truth"
Some people believe different things to be true- case in point, religion People just accept things at different rates, and accept different things Basically, its a never-ending debate |

Please, stop arguing about one users post. If you believe they are a troll, just click the 'report' icon and let the moderators deal with it. Arguing with another user, who is not a moderator is not solving anything. Please, stop posting about vega on this thread and just click the report icon or not. Then let the moderators handle that decision. But, just to back vega up here. Vega did help get rid of a troll on the site, which was lurking around the forums section. But, either or....Stop arguing you two..please |

I think that the problem with truth is that reality, as a whole, is much more complex than any single person can comprehend. We humans, as a conscious individuals have a certain need to make sense of reality and because of that, we each form our own opinions, individually or collectively, of how reality works.
One thing that we have to consider is that opinions, beliefs or faith need not matter when is comes to reality. Our minds are certainly part of reality but there is no need for reality to bend according to anyone's thoughts. All of this however depends on whether you believe in scientific truth or not. The thing is, scientific truth is very different from the "truth/Truth" that many people believe in. Scientific truth depends on reality and reality is often confusing and counter-intuitive. Most people think that the truth is exact, unchangeable and certain, but because of the quirks of reality, scientific truth is simply based on probabilities. There is no room for certainties in science. Nothing is exact, nothing is unchangeable and nothing is certain, everything should be questioned. People ask: "Of what use is science?" Well science gives us the technologies that we use today. "Can science be trusted?" That depends on that you want to use science for and the probabilities related to it. "Doesn't science still require faith or belief belief?" Well no. When I call my brother on my mobile phone I don't have to believe that I will be able to call him I just enter his number and press send and it works just as the probabilities suggest. Without needing any amount of faith, I type my post on this thread, my keyboard works according to the probabilities, my computer works according to the probabilities, my internet connection works according to the probabilities, and I press "Post Reply." |
