Oh look Kate Middleton had a baby!
Well guess what alot of other women had a baby that day also

lol I was thinking the same thing....I still don't understand the obsession with the royal family. I really don't care how they live their lives but somehow many people seem to think otherwise.

You have to realize that the news plays those bad stories to get ratings and make money. As you said, they aren't exactly lying, but they don't go out of their way all the time to show good stories. It is a fact that there will always be some strong individual taking advantage of a weaker individual somewhere in the world. Just because this fact exists, however, is NOT an excuse to solely focus on the bad things of this life.

Creation is beautiful. God saw everything He made and called it good. There is beautiful scenery to behold and touching stories of kindness between two or more people to be heard. There are new ideas to consider. Works of art to enjoy.

It doesn't hurt to be knowledgeable of the events going on in the world, but if those events start weighing heavily on your heart, it could be time to turn the television off and enjoy some of the beauty in this world. We have to decide for ourselves how much is enough of the negativity we allow in our lives.

I didnt read all of the post but humans want to have the impression they are doing better then others, they want to think their lives are fulfilling and meaningful as well as have a sense of being successful. So when they see all this negative stuff going on in the world it creates a sense of things could be worse off then what it is.

This is why the media is so successful. If they only aired positive stuff and the great deeds others are doing then we would sit and wonder why cant I go outside and help others instead of sitting here watching anime/posting in forums with my free time and in turn they would no longer continue to watch the news.

However in my opinion the world is far worse then we could even imagine..

There's a nice balance. But people don't like to focus on the good. They try to inform us of bad things and useless things, but rarely about the good.

Steven Pinker charts the decline of violence from Biblical times to the present, and argues that, though it may seem illogical and even obscene, given Syria, Iraq and Darfur, but we are actually living in the most peaceful time in our species' existence.

Read: The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined

For anyone interested in human nature, the material is engrossing.

The badness in the world is like germs. Even if much of the world is good and people are good (or at least not bad) 90% of the time, once tainted, the entire thing is dirty and contaminated. It'll stop when humans are gone and evil has nothing to manifest itself through.

The bad stuff sticks out. If we're talking % of the population doing bad stuff, then I would say it's not that bad. Unfortunately, that bad stuff, like tribal warlords/militias raping/murdering with impunity is clumped together in some areas. So some people only ever know that life. Even if a person has some disturbing thoughts I think very few act on them.

Now, if we're talking is it as bad or worse than what a lot of people realize, then I would say yes. Considering the "outrage", rofl, over miley cyrus behavior on stage....Just sayin, most people live in worlds many layers removed from true evil, to the point it's never even heard about.

I believe that we most focus on the bad, but I think that for every bad thing that happens somewhere there is something good to balance it.

the world is a horrible place but the media also is a place for distortion and lies to occur.

in todays modern world their is always secrets hiding in the background shrouded in darkness.

all secrets come out one day no matter how long or how short the time period is a secret hurts everyone its affects.

its better to come out with it, than to just hide it although in today's world if some secrets were to come out it would probably destroy the world and even if the secrets were kept in the same would occur. global anarchy

yes it is dark but the proof is every where.

It's a lot worse. The media really does not portray the horror of the world accurately. We do get some bad stories… but we also get "scandals"… celebrities saying offensive things… we get silly left vs right politics which are really of no consequence.

Generally the world portrayed on the media is a fantasy, where the worst thing that really happens is, someone happens to say something offensive… where people get worked up over inane things.

Most of the really bad stuff isn't reported. Ask someone who works in child protective services, the kind of things they see on a daily basis… most of it is never reported.

All that being said, I agree the world is better than it has ever been in the past. But that really isn't saying much.

I don't claim to have the wisdom to generalize a worldly perspective ,but it would seem to me that there must be some good out there because I don't to have blackout curtains up ,wear body armor, or carrying an automatic weapon to watch anime.
