Two things. When you upload an image, it is converted and resized. Both of these are a problem when it comes to animated gif's. All transparency is removed and it cannot properly resize often breaking the animation. The best way to fix this is to resize it to 200x200 or less yourself then upload it.

Here, I just resized it myself from 200x200 to 200x200. It seems to have fixed the issue.

Not to make a mold out of a cheese here....But, the perfect 200x200 fix thing beard mentioned...I can disprove a fix like that with a image like this:

Which is not 200x200 fyi. The reason this happens is due to the colors, in the background of the image. Most of the time, you just need to clean out the background. But, sometimes the issue is with the size of the image in itself. If Crunchyroll has to deal with alot of memory for your one image, and have it move too....You are going to get this:

But, if the image is moving too fast, then you are going to get a minor glitching, like these:

Btw, these are all site programming issues. Just a simple scroll through all of the coding and fixing up some stuff would fix the gif thing entirely :P

The trick was not being perfectly 200x200, it was in converting the file yourself first. But you are correct in saying the underlying issue is with colors. More specifically the image handler cannot properly convert gif's with any alpha values. If you provide me with originals of those I can upload them here without the defects after a quick conversion.

Just google search:

derpy.gif

Then decrease the file size of the image

These two worked without doing anything, both are ~270 KB and one of them had a transparent background. 7-8 frames

This one would not work correctly even after the conversion, frame count: 18 size:146 KB (200 KB after)

This one is large in every way 542x302 36 frames and 887 KB (1,161 KB after)

In every case the converted file was larger, so maybe it is less compressed and easier to deal with or something like that.

those glitches are just two frames, chopped and fiddled with, crunchyroll does this alot. But, of those frames are just 18 in total.
But, again. I will say it again. If crunchyroll has to deal with fast images, it will glitch up. But, after some tweaking around in some areas and such. I realized the Simple act of slowing down the images animation speed might/ will fix those glitches. But, even the more simple act of deleting a few layers will fix it too. But, it all matters on the image in itself. The crying image is moving a bit faster. And since I tried the most simple method, deleting a few layers. Then you might have to slow down the images frames speed along with deleting a few frames, aka layers. I did both for the derpy mouse image, a long while back. So, you can use that as the proof image.
