Apparently this has been broken for a while now. I didn't even notice it until someone in the Premium Members Forum (group) mentioned it, and I noticed my own points didn't add up to how long I had been a premium member (since 11/27/2009, minus 3 days last November, around the time I should have passed 48K, even with no other activity). I have little doubt it can be fixed, the real issue is how difficult it would be to do, as that would determine the priority of the fix. Except for new premium users that could use that first 1000 points to quickly give them the number needed to be able to start topics, it has little real impact. As such, it would probably be given only slightly more priority than a cosmetic error with the website. If it turned out to be due to a difficult to track down bug, it could be quite a while before the issue is addressed.
