What moment in gaming made you cry?

I dare you to play the first 10-20 minutes of Homefront for 360/PS3; I did this while very high, and there's a certain part that's pretty shocking. I think you'd have to be a major bro, or missing a chunk of your brain/ humanity to not feel some kind of emotional impact.
Mind that the game is pretty crap to play, while the plot is incredibly interesting. I got it for 6 bucks at Target after hearing a bit about the story. I could see why it was priced that way after actually getting into the game for about 10 minutes. |

Did I cry? No, but one of the most powerful and saddening moments (for myself) has to be in the first Homeworld. Specifically, mission three when you warp back to Kharak, which had been destroyed by the Taiidan Empire. The icing on that emotional gut puncher is the background music: A choral version of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.
The revenge-induced Taiidan slaughtering after that feels real good. |

Halo Reach on the last level when Noble 6 gets killed by a hoard of elites.
Made me tear up. There were probably others but I don't remember. |

Still trying to use the force.

Jiraiya's death in Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. It was done soo much better then the anime and even the manga.
I'm sure I'll cry at the Kushina part in the new one too. I cry every time I watch that. No I did not cry when Aerith died. Aerith is a stupid bitch, she was totally flirting with Zack first. I think she just has a thing for big fat swords. |

I don't know about crying, but if there's been any game that's come close, it'd be Nier. Especially once you get New Game+ and
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide having subtitles for all the Replicants makes you aware of the lives you've been destroying and all the terrible things you've done. Near every boss fight becomes soul destroying. And suddenly you realise why random mobs are dropping school supplies - you've been murdering children the whole time. |

I realized that storytelling in video games was possible around 1991-92. Final Fantasy 4 was full of plot twists. Some of them have not aged well, but there were so many memorable moments. And they were remarkable at a time when my other video games barely went past "save the princess / defeat the villain."
Right around the same time, I played Seiken Densetsu. Sure, it was a monochrome Gameboy game, but it had a number of compelling characters and interesting plot developments. For instance... Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide ...the main character and a girl named Amanda battle a medusa. Amanda gets critically wounded, and asks the main character to kill her. The player has to do this -- it's not a cut scene! This plot twist gets even better afterwards, when the main character needs to work with Amanda's brother in order to proceed. I don't know how this is all presented in the Gameboy Advance remake of the game (called Sword of Mana), but it was remarkably effective in the older game. |

There's quite a few games that have made me cry or at least put me in a very upset state. One that comes to mind is in Mass Effect 3.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Mordin's death. Ripped out my freaking heart. God, that part killed me. |
