This is my first post in a CR forum. I really just wanted to publicly thank CR for doing such a good job and offering such a wide variety of shows both animated and live action. As a side bit, I had seen some posts complaining about older shows, but honestly I love those too. I am so glad to be able to watch Galaxy 999, Captain Harlock, and others in their entirety.

But here is the real subject of this post. Since I had never posted here before, I thought I had better go look at the rules. So, I did. 5 hours later, when I thought I was done, I came across the Extended Rules. I realize all the factors. CR doesn't want to get sued, they want to run a clean/safe show or whatever. But I just wanted to mention that I have been going to online sites ever since the BBS days, and it never fails. The most overruled sites were almost always run by power obsessed people. It is also true that most of the best sites are run by people who have a few simple rules like "treat each other with respect" or "no flaming" or something. Again, yes we know this is your site and yes, we know you make the rules. But, we are people out here too...your customers. Some of us, myself included, are paying customers and don't appreciate talk about how easily or quickly our account can be deleted. In fact, I almost was afraid to post this (especially after the big clampdown at W*tp**nt).
So, to that end, you might want to rethink all this rule business and come up with a concise, clear, useful and minimal set of rules. Honestly, the only information I came away with after trying to read them is that CR will delete your posts or accounts for whatever reason suites their fancy. Is that really the image you want?

Once again, to be clear: I love CR and the wonderful programming it brings to me. To be able to watch so much Asian programming with good reliable subtitles and excellent quality video is such a joy. I chose CR over Funimation and other sources. That is why I felt I should say something.

People have been complaining about the rules of cr for sometime now. But, most are to afraid to say anything because of the 'is my account gonna be deleted??" thing you mentioned. Personally, I just stick to the groups section of crunchyroll, aka the rp community here. This is the real community of crunchyroll, the proof is the fact that alot of those rpers are paying members. Crunchyroll forums just seems to be filled with 4chanish/ youtube users. But, either or...I agree with you, and disgree with you. But, crunchyroll is a great site, but...the rules here need some....adjustments.

Current set of rules kills all attempt on serious discussion. This thread will most likely be removed for some stupid reason such as "personal thread" or whatever.

This is their site, they really have the right to make any rules they please. You don't have to use this site, you can find a separate forum to use with rules that suit you. You don't really pay to use the forums, anyway. You pay to watch and support anime. So the whole "paying customers" schtick really doesn't have much meaning here.
The rules here really aren't that strict, I don't see them banning you over something stupid or simple anytime soon. So don't worry about it, and just follow the rules and be respectful as best you can.

Hmmm....This actually happened to once, not the editing part but something different. I said a character's name was spelled this way and it WAS, Crunchyroll was the only site spelling ' Lumati' Rumaty or something like that. The guy reported me, and the moderator told it was spelled this way and it should be that way, I said no, then we start arguing and then my friend jumps in and tells us both to knock it off, and he leaves.

Still horrible though. Maybe I'll go to a different site then...

There is more than just the rules that kills serious discussion, but that is largely because of the demographic of the site.

Crunchyroll is the best site for forum rp, even with those forum rules problem. But, whenever a site gets a major user / money coming in. The site tends to go through a 'what the..." period of it's life. Currently, crunchyroll is still going through this period of its life. The proof is in the bugs, glitches, hud changes, and exct. If you just remember that the site went legal just a few years back, and remember that forum moderators come and go. (the mods who you chat with about forum postings, like yours) Then you will notice the site gets better and better, with each day. I noticed the site improving and fixing things each and every day. Yes, the moderators have inner problems among themselves. Which is not much problem...until it effects the users.

But, in short:

Trust me, it is not worth it

Glad u looked at the rules! I'm a meticulous rules kinda guy so I actually like the rules CR has, lol. Also, newbies who are new to any kind of message board I think would greatly benefit from these common sense rules. But what I think many people forget is that this is supposed to be a PG-13 site, and people either tend to forget or just don't know or care enough to restrict their language/posted images/etc. to reflect that.

There is no reason to be afraid. Trust me, if you use common sense in posting, and just keep in mind this is a PG-13 site, you'll be fine. ^__^

Actually, there is quite a bit of serious discussions in the Extended Discussions forum. But yes, this will be probably closed/moved as it should be though. I think this thread should have been posted in the Help/Support/Feedback forum.

@original author:

I actually think this CR's forum is pretty open-minded. I've been on forums that forbid people from talking about Religion or Politics... can you imagine that?

I've never been afraid of getting banned... I'm sure that this site will give one warning if I did something wrong... and I will fix it if I can.

no subject or interest should be of limits. CR is one of the few open minded communities where people can express themselves without being butcherd in the forums. Take a look at CNN.com or Huffingtonpost. Those comment sections are full of hate and ignorance. Just my 2 cents....

What I don't like is that now and then, it says that the forum rules have been updated, but they don't say which part(s) have been updated. And sorry, I'm not going to read through all the rules again just for perhaps one sentence that has been re-worded. Or maybe it's more; but the updated parts aren't highlighted, so I don't know.

I try to be decent in my posts, but people pretty much say what they want, and don't get in trouble for it (except for having a duplicate thread deleted).
