Moreover, most discussions of this tend to involve really objectifying females in general. So I guess I'm offended? Dunno, I mean they're cartoons, but you can't tell me in all honesty that this would result in a healthy relationship. My understanding is that most women prefer not to be treated like trading cards. *shrug* Women are doing the same thing choosing the guys they'd like to marry, so what's the difference? I think you're taking things way too seriously and shouldn't be offended, everyone is just having fun, no need to get all serious about it. I'm not into the whole "Mai Waifu" thing seriously, but I think it's fun just to say who you'd like to be with. It's interesting to see everyone's preference. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide What I'd hoped to convey was that I don't take it seriously at all. My meaning is that it's dumb (at least to me), and all the pics of characters in suggestive poses doesn't really invalidate my point about objectifying the ladies. Yes, you are correct that people are just saying who they'd like to marry, but I take issue with the manner in which it is discussed and displayed. You know, as in the difference between a romantic gesture, and possessive delusional "perving out", as it were. I know, it's nitpicky, but the whole illusions-of-what-a-woman-should-be thing pushes my buttons. It's sexist, is what I'm saying. That's not to say it applies to everybody here, just the posts with obvious "fanservice" (as opposed to regular fanservice which in my experience is intended to be more subtle)......if I was a woman, I think I'd be a feminazi.. The screwed up part of it is, the people representing the U.S. between colonial times to post WW2 imposed their concepts of sex and what's perverse onto the japanese, and the whole scene past and present- it's a weird phenomenon influencing fans outside japan in modern days. The whole obsession with underpants? Yeah that's our fault. Look it up. I don't know, a lot of trends in anime and manga these days are really bugging me. I apologize for inserting my admittedly opinionated rant into a thread that's supposed to be fun; I thought it was relevant to the discussion. You'll have to forgive me, I am not one of those people who says, "If you have a problem, don't post". Echo chambers aren't good for fluidity of thought, wouldn't you agree? I understand what you mean. Most people on here don't really take it that seriously...but if you're talking about the true and told people who truly wish to marry anime characters and post really perverted pics (not panty shots or anything, but borderline hentai) then I can partly agree with you. 99% of the people in this forum are most likely just having fun like me. I know that at times I wish I could marry an anime character, usually as a means to escape reality (not from bad experience with girls, just reality altogether). I don't immerse myself with pics of the character, but sometimes I wish life were as simple as an anime...and choosing a girl you wish you could marry is just all apart of that. I'm talking more about going into the anime and marrying, not having the girl become real. But yeah, Me personally, I'm just having fun and choosing some of my favorite female characters which I respect and love. I'm fully aware of American influence on Japanese culture in pre-WWII times and afterwards...up to this day America is still influencing Japan through many things. The trends are just created to sell...though that's what most entertainment is. Music, Movies, TV shows, they were all specifically created to sell, even less-than-dirty movies were created to sell. I don't think Japanese culture really propels that trend, it's the fact that the fans love it and it keeps selling. Just like Twilight Movies are here, they aren't spectacularly amazing to everyone, but many female fans rave over it. Just think about that but in reverse and you pretty much get fanservice. You're not the first and you won't be the last to rant about fanservice anime, but there's really nothing you can do unless you can influence their sales. What you said is partly relevant to the thread. But most people here are just posting for kicks. Remember that a lot of people here actually like fanservice or harem anime, so it's kind of like shooting yourself in the foot lol. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so you should post whatever you want if it's bothering you, I have no problem with that whotsoever, I just thought I would counter your post is all. Also, everything I said is purely my opinion, so you can agree or disagree with any part of it. Just getting my thoughts out there. Hey, you're alright. |
