Really depends on who I talk to. It's not like I go around bragging to people who don't really care about anime that I watch it.
But if they watch anime, then sure, I can talk about it for hours.
I don't go outta my way hiding it and I dont think anyone should, it is after all something you WATCH, shouldn't be a big deal.

Most of my close friends know and so does my boyfriend. He actually watches anime with me, WHICH IS AMAZING. I don't go around telling everyone I watch it, but if it comes up in a conversation I'll talk about it. I love anime and their's no way anyone could change my mind about it, so I say whatever to all those people who want to judge you for watching anime! Some people just don't understand.

I was self conscious of it in high school. I lived in a small town and all the kids I know who did like anime looked like the stereotypical nerdy anime fan (which I am not). I was worried that if my friends found out I liked anime they would think I was a weirdo so I kept it to myself (which was silly because my friends would have accepted me for who I was anyways). Once I graduated high school and realized that all that worrying what other people thought was stupid, I started to be more open about it. In College I got involved in the anime club and had anime out in my room for all the world to see (I previously kept it hidden). Also when I went to college I found there was a lot more people who where into anime (and willing to watch it) then I would have guessed, so I think it is a good time to come out of the anime fandom closet.

A big no. Whenever my life gets tough anime is the medicine or Hatsune Miku live on youtube. I am more into seinen anime with more contents though.

I don't hide it, but I don't announce it either, nobody I know IRL is interested in Anime or Video Games.
Actually I'm more into hiding my age, because most people feel somebody my age that is into Anime & Video Games is a perv.

My closest friends know, but that's pretty much it. I don't go out of my way to hide it, though. If someone asks me if I watch anime I say yes and if I hear someone mention an anime that I really like, I'll talk to them about it. I just don't don't go around advertising that fact that I'm into anime. It would be impossible for me to hide it even if I wanted to though because I'm in a Japanese class, and it's pretty much assumed that everyone in the class watches at least a little anime.

Currently
I tell people if the ask me, but don't mention it unless they have an anime trinket or something of that sort.
advertising it though I wouldn't recommend because I was in an anime club once and it was terrible. We advertised our love for anime and it was the most uncomfortable feeling I ever had ... (つづく)

Daughter is in the high school cosplay club, it's pretty much just her friends and they have kinda always been outsiders. So far she has not had any issues. Though I don't think the club will last after they graduate since they only have a couple other members.

I don't hide it at all.
I help run a club dedicated to anime and gaming. I don't find it shameful to be an Otaku. I wouldn't want to be with someone who doesn't have similar interests, I like having common interests.
I don't randomly bring it up with people though...if I don't know if they're into it or not I don't use it as a conversation starter. But if it comes up I'll geek out about it. I more often stick to my group of people, and never really had friends who didn't share interests with me.

I think I'm going through a lot of what you did OP .-.
I kinda built my self-image on sports and academics, so I guess I was someone to "look up to"
But I really started liking anime about a year and half ago, so it's awkward for me to tell my friends who have no interest in anime that it's a kind of passion I have .-.
I'm still trying to express myself more properly, but nonetheless, it's been getting much better and I'm more proud of it! I think another factor is that I'm not East Asian, so it's kinda looked down upon or seen as a silly waste of time to many people around me

Not at all!! I have posters and stuff everywhere people can think what they want but anime has meaning unlike what questioners watch for example jersey shore, or honey boo boo what are you supose to learn from that how to be trash I think people can handle that on their own without a show guiding them.
