I don't hide it, but I don't announce it either, nobody I know IRL is interested in Anime or Video Games.

Actually I'm more into hiding my age, because most people feel somebody my age that is into Anime & Video Games is a perv.

So you're 50? Yeah, I can see that. Seems sometimes age doesn't help, as seems to be the case with most people. Oh well..maybe some day I'll feel your pain gramps

Actually the age is more of an issue on xbox live, since I put my gender and age I get fewer random friend requests. I do game with a few older guys from time to time.

My first exposure to anime was speed racer, at the time I had no idea it was from Japan.

Well I think that eventually society will accept gamer/anime watchers of all ages. We may not be there yet, but someday I think peoples minds will be open enough. That tends to be the trend with MOST things.

Just a friendly reminder: Not everyone in Japan is as open about people watching anime or people calling themselves otaku as some might think...

It's not something I hide, but I definitely do not bring it up often. My Immediate family knows I watch it, but I don't go out of my way to tell my other relatives. It's not something I bring up in "normal" conversation with my friends, unless they also watch it.
I definitely make sure not to mention it to people who do not understand that there are so many different genres and demographics and is not only kid stuff and porn.
I'm also a fujoshi. That's the one thing I hide. I mean, I go out and buy manga, but I don't let people see that unless they're my close friends.

When I was younger I used to. Well... Manga I should say. As a chile reading Love Hina felt so dirty. Bought the volumes and never showed my parents lol.. now I just whip that anime out like it's going out of style.

Same. Although, I do let people see what I have if they are interested. I mean, I'm not a fujoshi, but still.

I don't hide it, but I don't advertise it either. If I decide to wear some anime apparel it's usually stealth-level. Things like emblems and vector-type art that looks stylish without people knowing what it actually is.

i do this too! im a super-mega fan of durarara!! and i have a caution tape X on my binder and like to play around with the colors black and yellow(without it looking tacky of course). i take joy in stealthily showing that im a fan of a particular anime with the little things and those who know what it's from silently nod their head and are like "im with you friend". i totally and completely understand how you feel with the whole hiding it thing but you might come to realize that there are more people who like anime around you than you think. i actually recently found out that one of my best friends loves anime as much as i do. some of my friends do think it's a little weird to watch anime but that doesnt mean im hanging out with the wrong people. everyone has their own interests and maybe anime just isnt one you have in common with some of your friends. if a person asks me if watch anime, 99% of the time that means that they feel comfortable enough with me to ask that and they watch it too. just take pleasure in the fact that you have a secret that maybe no one knows about! that's how i look at it.

I've never really felt the need to hide my interest in anime. It's no one else's business what I enjoy doing on my spare time so I feel no need to hide it or wear it out that anime is my life.

I have never hid my anime watching yet, but I may have to start toning things down when I start my intern ships. You never know how the ignorance of other people can affect you. :/

No I don't, my family know that I watch anime. But with new friends that I make, I keep it a secret because last time I made some new friends and I told them I like anime, they were like 'omg you watch japanese porn' -.-

I'm old and ugly enough that I don't have to hide things. At this point in life I'm pretty unapologetic--but then again, I always was.
