It's not that I hide it, it's that none of my friends are into anime so there's no point in mentioning it. However, I would talk about it all day if I had the chance, lol.

I do not hide the fact that I love and watch anime. Do I get flak for it? Of course. A grown woman watching anime? LOL, hell yeah & this grown woman does. Its like I tell them, there's a major difference between cartoons & anime. Of course, then I get a bunch of blank stares. But I like what I like & the only thing I'll hide is yaoi sex scenes when my babies are around.

I'm a 20 year old college student, have been heavily involved with sports my whole life, usually considered a "ladies man" or "pretty boy" and I'm not what people think of when they think of anime..and we all know that in the U.S. anime is looked down upon as being "lame" or stupid or whatever. In the past, I would feel extremely pressured to hide the fact that I watch anime...because of my personality and interests I find myself around people who don't watch anime and usually think it's weird. I'm a lot more open about it nowadays seeing as to how it's my life and I shouldn't be embarrassed about these kinds of things. I also listen to J-pop and am still self-conscious about that too..as far as others hearing me listening to it. Does anybody feel the same way or maybe used to and just got over it like I'm trying to?

Im 18 and about to graduate and head to college in the summer.. go gators.. but ive hidden it all my life for the very same reasons as you and unfortunately i plan on keeping it as my secret side. i feel your pain brother. it sucks that anime is viewed as something weird people do.. the only reason its viewed that way is because 95% of "ladies men" and sexy bitches have never seen anime. if they ever did see anime their whole perspectives would change.. I think a lot of popular people or just people you wouldn't expect to watch it secretly watch anime.

I went into this video store once and saw a guy who was pretty popular at my high school browsing in the anime section. He told me he was looking for something for his little sister, but I'm not sure if I believe that. XD

There were also these two really popular boys who were obsessed with Pokemon. They didn't keep it a secret, but I never expected that out of them.

I don't really hide it but, at the same time, I'm not a big enough fan to be considered an otaku or anything. I do have "cool" friends who think anime is weird, but they know how I am and they don't really hold it against me.

I'm one of those strange people who sometimes just does whatever the hell is on his mind without considering the opinions of others.

I'm 18 too about to go to college, however, I've never kept it a secret. I don't go fanboying all around the world, nor do cosplay or anything like that however i won't deny it (well sometime i hide that half of my music library is from anime ). I can't complain about the ladies at all, and i don;t think one of my girlfriends has said anything about my watching anime. I don;t feel ashamed to say "yes i watch anime," it has never deducted from my persona and don't think it will ever do. If you are a "cool guy" people will just say "ohh" and forget about it the next minute. Even my best friend i never expected him too watch anime, and one day a i was playing a piano song and he was like "is that from Naruto" and i just went in wtf mode. So i think admitting in some degree i watch anime has done good for me. There are many people just like you, the cool kid kind that watch anime.

Lool i was gonna go to UF too.

I'm 18 and already taking concurrent college classes while finishing out my senior year. I'm not going to lie...for a while when people would ask what I liked anime was not my first answer even though I adored it...however now days....while I still am kinda like "well its kind of nerdy but I really enjoy it so that's all that mattes right" most people know I'm an Otaku and that that's just what I like . Also because I draw a lot of anime most people find out from looking through my sketch books or coming to my house and seeing paintings on my wall so...Its what ever. I like what i like and if someone can't handle it then they don't have to stick around ^_^

I don't hide it, but I don't exactly go around telling everybody I watch it either. Back in high school one of my friends watched as much as I do, so I'd talk with him, trade recommendations and all that good stuff, but otherwise I'd keep it to myself unless something brought it up.

Not that what I do now is much different, but I can say I don't hide it because I'm embarrassed or anything. Mostly just that I don't have many people to talk to about it. Granted I do get some comments about having music from Sailor Moon on my iPod

Nah, I'm known as an artist throughout school so of course they know I watch cartoons and such.
You can't help what you like you know? I mean, if you truly enjoy it I don't see the point in hiding it unless it will affect your daily life or whatnot. I'm 18, and I still watch Anime so age shouldn't be a problem. My grandpa still watches Tom and Jerry and he's like 85. lol.

I don't hide it. Anime is pretty much all there is to me interest wise, so I can't really lol. Not that I talk about it unless people ask though, unless they are people I know that also like it. I don't think there's anything wrong with liking anime, obviously, and if other people think so that is there problem, not mine.

Oddly enough I probably gained popularity around the time I started watching Anime. I was 15 at the time and learning to actually socialise. 24 now.

Thing is it's not usually Anime but the steriotype around the people who watch anime that people don't like. I've met a handful of people who actually think Anime is the work of Satan, but they're rarely the type I enjoy the company of anyway.

What I found is you can have whatever hobbies you want as long as you are enjoyable to be around and not obsessively trying to get them into it. You'll be made fun of, but if people like your personality they'll probably just heckle you like you'll heckle them for their odd tastes.

I will say I still would hide it from potential employers (read: facebook) since I want an interview even if they have a prejudice, but if I'm already talking to someone I'll freely name anime as one of my hobbies.

Not going to lie, I do hide the fact that I watch anime/read manga. The only people that know I'm into this stuff is my close group of friends. My group loves hanging out with me and they don't mind that I watch anime but the problem is I don't have anyone to talk about it with lol. I'd be more than happy to geek out on anime with someone new but unless I become really cool with them, I wont even bring up anime.

Even though anime is becoming more popular, thank goodness lol, I still feel like many people have the perception of it only appealing to "weird" people. Some of yall do have a point but hopefully yall can see where people that feel the same as me come from =/

Not really, but i also don't go out of my way to say that i like anime, unless it's with like-minded friends or people i know won't make a fuss out of it.

I would say that i do, and i don't. I live in a very rural area (actually live on a 500 acre farm, and no i am not a farmer myself). However, i would say most people that know me would say that i am very social person, and i would not lie if someone asked if i watched anime, but i don't typically bring it up unless i know they watch anime. People where i am from are typically close-minded and sheltered so they might have heard of anime, but don't understand, and since they don't understand it, they think its weird.
