I don't see a point to hide it from anybody, it's not like I yell to everybody "HEY I WATCH ANIMES", but if someone asks it to me, I'd say it shamelessly.

I hide the fact that I watched Sailormoon and liked it. Drawings of the girls looked well. The clothes and the body proportions were nice.

I don't hide the fact that I hate Bleach. I'll say it on your face that "it sucks and fuck Ichigo."

I used to "hide it" if you could call it that more like no one really talked about it so it didn't cone up but on the rare chance it did i used to hide it mainly because i cared what people think of me which now looking back was a stupid thing to do but oh well.

However about halfway through high school i was like I don't care what anyone thinks of me it is my hobby so they can either except it or F**K off now if someone asks me what my hobbies are i just say I watch Anime, listen to Music (JPop mainly), read Manga and play video games, because who gives a sh*t what others think if someone doesn't like you because of your hobbies then they aren't much of a friend or person for that matter.

If people are going to ridicule and pass harsh judgement on someone for liking anime, or anything for that matter........... are they really worth hanging around?

I don't hide the fact that I watch anime and read manga, but I don't advertise it either.
I've just got to watch my back when watching anything ecchi.

This sums it up for me, too. If someone else likes anime, then I'll talk about it with them, otherwise I won't. Simple as.

I've got some awesome-looking cufflinks which have a Gallifreyan design from Doctor Who. To the untrained eye, they just look nice, but to a fellow Whovian, my nerdiness instantly becomes recognisable.

It's like some kind of cult

I've also just seen the neckties which have an anime character design covertly printed on the small exposed bit underneath on the bottom, with the actual tie design being related, but normal-looking.
WANT.

Not at all. You like what you like, and if people cant accept that, are they really worth it then?
The friends i have that cares about me and accepts me all know who i am, i like anime, i like manga, i like kpop, jpop and jrock? They tease me with it sometimes and they think its weird but they accept it. In school last year i had a friend who wanted to listen to my music on my computer, "sure" i told her, "but dont come crying to me, im warning you, 50% of the music is not for you". And sure enough she looked through it, she thought it was weird and hasnt looked through it since. But we're still friends because she accepts me with my interests. If they didnt accept it and started pulling away from you, thats where you'd have to concider whats more important, a friend who cant accept your interests or your interests which makes you happy?

As long as you try and force your anime/manga (music too) interests upon others, most people dont really care about it. Accept that theyre nor interested in anime and manga and they will accept that youre interested in it!

Of course there will be times when theyre curious and thats when you pull out the heavy stuff xD ive gotten some of my friends addicted to kpop and anime, xD surprisingly!

No need to hide who you are ^^ be happy with who you are.

Most of my family members and best friends knew that I like anime and listening to Japanese music. And sometimes they tried to tell me that I shouldn't go nuts with my obsessions but I still do *Chuckled lightly*
However, I don't know how few new people will react to my personality or my lifestyle. I'm actually a sweetheart once to get to know me..

I'm a 20 year old college student, have been heavily involved with sports my whole life, usually considered a "ladies man" or "pretty boy" and I'm not what people think of when they think of anime..and we all know that in the U.S. anime is looked down upon as being "lame" or stupid or whatever. In the past, I would feel extremely pressured to hide the fact that I watch anime...because of my personality and interests I find myself around people who don't watch anime and usually think it's weird. I'm a lot more open about it nowadays seeing as to how it's my life and I shouldn't be embarrassed about these kinds of things. I also listen to J-pop and am still self-conscious about that too..as far as others hearing me listening to it. Does anybody feel the same way or maybe used to and just got over it like I'm trying to?

It's looked down on in Japan for the same reasons. I don't go around making it explicitly obvious that I enjoy anime, but if people get to know me well enough, they'll figure it out in due time.
