I don't hide it, but I don't advertise either. Worst case scenario, they decide to not be your friend anymore, which makes them look like a dick.

I don't hide it, but I don't announce it to the world either. If someone asks what I'm watching I tell them. If they don't I ignore them.

Pft, nothing wrong with watching anime. Even if some people think it's "lame", you shouldn't hide who you are. Don't care about what others think of you if they're just gonna bring you down haha. Anywho, I just got into college and met a couple friends who (don't even look like they would) watch anime. And not just the well-known ones. I love talking to them about it. (:

A lot of my other friends watch anime as well. Then again, most of my friends are asian so it's kind of a given. xD Sometimes we'd even watch anime together aha.

Its not something I hide. However, its also something I don 't usually talk about with other people. I tend to let them figure out my interests on their own, haha.

I have no one to hide it from but if it ever came up I would have no issue letting someone know I watch anime. It is just one of my interests and they don't have to share it or even like it. It makes no difference to me. I see no point in hiding who I am from anyone since I am not trying to be friends with anyone or make enemies out of anyone. I do my thing and everyone else does theirs as far as I am concerned.

people always said i was strange for watching anime. then i would ask if they like wrestling (answer was always yes) and i called them strange for watching half naked guys fight over a belt.

Agreed. People who like wrestling and NASCAR are very strange....

i most certainly never advertise it. but my close friends know i like it. they dont have a clue about how much time i spend watching it. i also watch a lot of korean shows and even some chinese and Taiwanese stuff too. and listen to the music too. i really do try to keep the extent to which i enjoy asian culture to myself, but i dont try to hide the fact that its one my interests. i do, however, really wish i could share that part of myself with at least a few people in my life. there are so many shows and songs that i love, and i wish i had some one around with which to enjoy then. but then again this stuff is just one fraction of who i am, not all of who i am, so i guess its less that i keep it too myself as it is that i dont make a big deal about it.
i definately consider myself a 22 year old closet nerd. becausei love to game (especially rpg and mmorpg) and because movies and books like lord of the rings are my favorite. but on the outside people think im fun and cool... tis but a rouse!

(ps. maybe is because im a chick, but isnt gaming/being a gamer really frowned upon too in the states? i feel the need to down play my love of video games all the time too. its kinda like sports and shooter games are the only socially acceptable ones. or maybe its just me..)

I don't hide anything but I don't go out of my way to bring it up in conversation.

I don't bother trying to hide it, I mean I have anime stuff "liked" on my Facebook so it's kind of obvious.

I don't see why anyone would try to hide the fact that they watch anime. There is nothing weird or strange about it.

I don't, If I enjoy a particular anime, I would tell my friends about it and maybe they might have the interest to watch.

My close friends know I watch but only a few know just how much t I watch (like that one day last weekend where I watched 26 episodes in 12 hours... I actually told two or three about that only because it was quite the feat and I set a personal record haha). Idt anyone knows that I watch almost every single day. I used to keep my mouth shut tight about it, but now I've mentioned it enough that my friends got used to it. Some of them will mention or bring up that I watch it and I've finally gotten used to the fact that its common knowledge that its an interest of mine.

I still don't feel inclined to tell people I just met, though. It's not that I'm ashamed of it, like the guy who started this thread pointed out it tends to be frowned on in America so I'd rather people get to know me and then find out my "weirder" interests.

Also, meeting a fellow anime fan is always so exciting for me!

I actively seek out others who watch anime or recommend it if "what TV shows I watch" conversation comes up and I've seen something I recently liked.

Could care less what people think - they're the ones missing out anyway.

I used to, I even tell the others in my Radio program at college. They usually just ignore it or make a note of it and move on. I know that most of them find J-pop to be terrible but they don't bother me about it and I hardly mention it. If it bothers you then don't worry about it, that will most likely past and by the time your my age you won't care about what others think.
