Don't even acknowledge their efforts by responding at all. They want you to reply to them, and they will be overjoyed to see you respond, especially in a negative way.

I pity the guy who thinks he's a successful troll for correcting spelling mistakes. Good Grammar and Spelling is a necessary part of communicating, I would not think that someone is a troll to point out that another person made a grammatical error, only that by correcting that person's grammar, he has made it easier for other people to understand whatever point he's trying to get across. So long as you understand what one is saying without any issue, there shouldn't be a problem. Ex, you no wat i am trying 2 tell you? y correct mii? It's pointless so long as you know what one is trying to convey. But I will agree that not everyone correcting someone is a troll. Rather, I think that your example perfectly illustrate that point- good grammar and good spelling are absolutely indespensable to clear communication. In addition, people tend to gague the intelligence of the poster not from what he is saying, but from how he says it. Orthographic and grammatical mistakes are usually judged to be indicative of intelligence, other people's esteem of your intellectual abilities is, in fact, proportional to the amount of grammatical or orthographic mistakes you make. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/3019/are-poor-spellers-stupid Really? My example was meant to point out the very opposite; that immaculate grammar is unnecessary in informal speech. Now don't confuse unnecessary with undesirable. I still very much prefer conversing with people such as yourself than I do those who speaks as my example displays. I think we are in broad agreement here, in that we both agree that immaculate grammar is not necessary. However, I would still argue that good grammar is necessary for communication. Consider this example: We would agree that the sentence 'The irritable church barks at the leaping post office' is a grammatical sentence, and that we both understand what is being said here. Suppose we change the syntax a little, to make is 'ungrammatical'- Barks leaping church post office irritable at the the. Restructuring the sentence, we see that the once coherent sentence becomes completely meaningless. Grammar is the structure and rules which governs a language, which is why good grammar is necessary. The fact that people look at someones wording style to gain a grasp of level of intelligence is unfortunate, but I will not deny that it is a fact. It's a very arbitrary way to gauge intelligence. For example, I can tell that you are an intelligent person, but not by your diction. But by what you are saying. You come up with logical contentions to back up your argument. Your presentation of those contentions does not bare any weight in my mind. And lastly, that was an interesting read. Thanks. Sometimes, presentation is just as important as what is being presented. It is an unfortunate truth, but you may think of it this way- if someone uses correct grammar and spelling, it may also indicate that he has bothered to look over and review what he has written before posting it. Hi there sorry but I had to delete this post any any other post that has more than 3 Quotes within them. Your post will be acceptable next time if you use a spoiler and put the quotes within the spoiler. If you have any questions feel free to look at the forum rules under 9.4 Avoid Quote Pyramids. Those people annoy me.. Unless they're a close friend. We have a lot of wars so a grammar one isn't really gonna do too much damage. I try to type everything right anyways. Sometimes, it's just a typo.
Someone correcting my typo is not okay. |
