Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Takumi Nishijō and I would have to agree though I don't see this particular archetype as 'bad' as it takes all types to a) keep things from growing stale and b) weak-willed people do actually exist thus are realistic. |

When you think about it Vash the Stampede is kinda spineless, right up until shit gets real then he goes into hero mode.

Thank you, but I have to disagree with statement (a) although there may be weak willed people in this world, anime's usually don't depict it well, and takes it to the extreme almost to the point of frustration for many viewers. Think about how many times you got mad because a character is too indecisive or way too timid or is afraid of a little interaction with the opposite sex. Because I have numerous characters who'd fall under this category. To be honest, I'd prefer it if some protagonists show a little backbone. |

Bah, maybe in the first half, but he starts fleshing out as a badass. He doesn't quite hit it, but his spine is existent. Imma have to go with that damn Shinji on this one. I think, though, that's the only anime I've watched with a spineless protagonist. I can't stand that archetype so I usually stop watching once I figure out that the character isn't going to grow one. |

Certain stories won't work without this archetype and since I care about the story over how much spine a character has, I'm willing to deal with the character. As much as Takumi, for easy example sake, annoyed me I'd rather he be shown than some other archetypes. Are some exaggerated? Probably but who is to know unless you can view all people around the world and their reactions to various events. |
