I have heard all kinds of crazy things like the hour long interview with the guy about how He-Man is satanic. How pokemon is satanic. How Yu-Gi-Oh cards had demonic symbols on it. Someone even said if you chant the right words a demon will be released from the cards I think people are just bored honestly

of course not!!! just like movies. and video games it depends on the person who creates it. therefore not every single anime is satanic it all depends on the creators intention who ever said that ALL anime is satanic is a hypocrite because if you can say that for anime then you have to say that For all movies and tv shows etc. XD

I dont mean to derail this into a political thread, but as stupid as what she said is, you have to put it into the context of where it belongs. It was 2 days after muslim terrorists killed 3000+ Americans. It's quite understandable that things would be said in the heat of anger that people wouldn't normally say. I'm not defending her, but simply reminding of the context of her stupid comment.

You're right, in that context her comments seem understandable, if not reasonable or acceptable. But that woman has made a living as a WASP extremist and says ignorant crap like that all the time. Her response to the tragedy in Fukushima was to write an article titled "A Glowing Report on Radiation" in which she stated that the people affected were actually lucky because, "radiation is good for you." She wants to invade Canada and thinks that the 14th amendment only applies to black people. She endorses televised torture of muslims because, "...all terrorists are muslims", and thinks women shouldn't be allowed to vote (although she's all for letting us keep our guns) because we don't know how money works.
The fact that enough Americans value her opinion that she has made a successful career with it (instead of being stuffed in a box and thrown down a well) says a lot about this country and the people that live here.

Man, it is so in vogue to tar Christians with a broad brush so as to seem smart/progressive/evolved/enlightened these days. I guess tolerance, understanding, and respect extend only to those who happen to agree with you. It seems a trite saying, but indeed, "people fear what they don't understand"-- to quote a previous poster, whether he intended to include Christians among potentially feared objects or not.

Speaking as a fairly conservative Christian (or "Bible thumper," if you like) who watches anime (surprised?) and played D&D in my university and graduate school days (our DM, who was very good, is a devout Catholic): Like so many things in this world, anime is not inherently satanic or evil. Even so, and again like so many things in this world (e.g. manga, the internet, dancing, rock music, whatever), anime can potentially be used or crafted for evil purposes or to celebrate evil things. Even things people might generally consider "good" or "wholesome" can be corrupted. I'm sure there are satanic anime out there, though I'd have to admit I've not seen any myself-- largely because I don't go looking for such, and would avoid any that I might encounter. Hell Girl was the first anime series I watched and enjoyed, and it was what got me in to anime in the first place. I've also watched Blue Exorcist (disappointed at the end) and Beelzebub (thought it was pretty good-- didn't want to see it cancelled), and am watching Maoyu. I'm bemused by the caricatured pseudo-Christianity that is portrayed in anime at times, and the usual in vogue vilification of Christianity (or pseudo-Christian stand-in for Christianity) is a bit annoying at times (e.g. Spice and Wolf, which I really liked, and maybe Maoyu is shaping up to be that way too), but I don't take personal offense and still appreciate a good story or even viewpoint with which I disagree if it's presented well. For any other Christians out there, it is well to be aware that Japan is, as mentioned earlier, a society/culture that does not have Christiantiy as part of its roots.

Off topic: For those who "don't believe in religion" and such, I'll nonetheless propose to you that you, and everyone else in the world, still have a religion. Christianity, like other worldviews typically considered "religions," is just that, a world-view-- a way of making sense of that which is. Your religion/worldview may not be monotheistic, or even theistic at all (hence, "atheism"). Your religion/worldview might acknowledge "spiritual" or non-material things, or may be totally materialistic, or perhaps better put, naturalistic. Your religion/worldview might have an official name, scripture, tangible social organization ("church"), and practices that may seem bizarre by those not of your ilk-- or may lack, one, some, or all of these. Even so, it's still a worldview and a "religion."

Sushipath... when was the last time you heard a Buddhist preaching against Pokemon or anime? How about Jainism? Hindu? American indian spritualism? No..?

About the only other religion that I can think of that has fundamentalist nutjobs that decry just about everything under the sun is Islam... I'm sure every religion has its nutter fringes, but Christianity seems to have more than its fair share.

mhibicke: I agree, she gives a bad name to Americans, even conservatives dont seem to like her.

whether anime is satanic or not and having a problem watching it then is moot because when you think about it every thing in modern society can have satanic aspects to it. I mean there are books about the devil does that make reading satanic? No, of course not. Things like that FB page are just absurdities that are best ignored in my opinion.

anime is not satanic though there are ones that feature demons. If someone says it is satanic then surely Christianity is satanic as well as they are the ones that invented satan.

I wonder what fundamentalist Muslims would have to say about anime? I know most of you hate Christianity with an undying passion and don't like anyone telling you what to do, but it really offends me when people lump a couple billion people of a faith and claim they're all idiots based on one FB page. Think before you type sometimes. There are plenty of Christians on CR that love anime and have never had such a stupid thought enter their minds.

I think the real question is, Does it really matter what other people think about the things you love?
