Religion can be a positive force for good. Many of the world's religions have positive messages, and are good spiritual guides for people who need guidance at that level. Its when you start to approach religion as an absolute truth and not as merely a spiritual guide that you get into problems. You get "dogma", and dogma in many religions is the source of sentiment that preaches separation, fear of other beliefs, and ultimately distrust and hatred of those not within your closed circle.

This is what's happening to many Christian Churches in the United States. Westboro Baptist Church is a prime example of the evils of Dogma, and what happens when you allow it to corrupt your beliefs.

If you approach the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, the Hindu Vedas, and etc. as spiritual guides rather than the absolute truth then you avoid these dangerous pitfalls.

I have heard that the newest trend in hell is that they force you to watch all seasons of Naruto while satan himself offends your waifu.

In the end, otaku satan isn't any better than mainstream satan...
