personally I like both. To quote parzival from Ready Player One "keeping my car safe wouldn’t be a problem here on Neonoir. As soon as I climbed out of the DeLorean I cast a Shrink spell on it, instantly reducing it to the size of a Matchbox car. Then I put the DeLorean in my pocket. Magic zones had their advantages."

The best is when they are well mixed.
But that is a reason why you don't let Engineers access magic, since you don't know what in all the incarnations of dimensions of torment they will create given some extra layers of physics.
