Being an older fan it hard for me not to go alone. Besides My purpose to go to a can is not primarily to meet up with people.
I tri to contribute in other way I am a regular at Kumoricon, some may see me as the guy with the Giant Hello Kitty / Chococat Plush. also run the Otaku over 25, a panel for older Anime Fans. THs yea as well I will tray to introduce Furry 101 the anime version, a panel about furry fandom and connections to anime and the anime fandom. |

Wow, this was hilarious, and painful to watch at the same time lol. Epic friend zoning techniques! ----- In regards to the thread topic, I'll most likely be going solo to Sakura-Con. More over I'm hoping to make friends either on forums, or at the convention, since going through life solo isn't as fun as having people around to experience life with. |

I usually go solo. No big deal.
Last year, I did meet up with someone from an online forum. Cool, but there's an age gap. Essentially, I'm old enough to be almost any younger Anime fan's dad. Sadly, most of my friends just don't get into anime. It's no big deal. They're missing out. I hope that eventually, I'll make friends with older fans. They're out there, I just need to find them. |

Yep. It's nice to bring a lot of friends along, but I prefer going alone to make more new friends.

I go to most of my con's alone- but I end up meeting up with old friends and going to cosplay shoots! if you have a schedule planned out don't feel obligated to stay with your friends

Hopefully I'm not hijacking the thread, but what do you mean prepare better next time? I'm hitting up my first convention in 2 months and not really sure what to expect. |

I'd say somethings to keep in mind if it's your first time at a convention is:
1. Make sure you have enough $$ for food, don't go spending all your money in the dealers room. 2. If you want to go to a panel make sure you get there at least 30 minutes early (this assures you a spot in line) at san diego comic con I've waited anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to get into a panel! 3. Stay updated on the conventions website- know what's happening when so you will know what events you want to go too! :) those are my main pointers but make sure you have comfy shoes on also because there will be a lot of walking! |

Well, personally, I realized that I didn't bring a big enough bag. I had a laptop bag with 1 bottle of water and zero snacks. I should have brought way more. At least enough to not have to waste money on overpriced food/drinks in the con. Most importantly, I didn't bring comfortable shoes. Argh. My feet killed me by the end of the day. And also... I forgot to bring my phone charger. My phone nearly died before I could meet up with my friends. If that happened, I would have had no way of knowing where to meet them. |

(ಠ_ಠ) i see you.

Well for the most part, if I can't find anybody to go to the con with me, I'll go by myself. But since I've been exploring the idea of taking people I meet over the internet with me, that may change (good or bad idea, I won't know until I try, any input?).

Depends on how well you know them. If you're meeting up there odds are you won't have any issues and if you do you can easily ditch them. I wouldn't want to travel long distances then share a hotel with some guy I vaguely know from the inet.

None of my friends are into anime, so I pretty much have to go to every convention by myself. If you have no one with you, why not strike up a conversation with some fellow convention attendees?

Does anyone have any stories or tips about going solo? A few years ago I went to Otakon by myself. It wasn't so bad. It was nice in that I did everything I wanted to do with having to compromise. I went for 2 days and it got a little lonely at some parts. Over the course of the con I did run into a lot of people I knew and I spent time with them for short amounts of time. Before that I always went with at least one other friend. It was still enjoyable but I'd haven't gone alone since, and I probably never will. Have fun and don't talk to strangers <(^_^)> I've never been to Sakura con, how is it? |

It gets pretty difficult to move around with the crowds of people that seem to just stand in the halls and block the entrances and exits all the time. I love it lots to do; good panels, all day and night anime rooms, concerts and more, I have fun every year I go. |
