Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide MakotoKamui wrote: I thought Kenshin TV was well done in English. Fatal Fury was terrible in places with the Japanese, while on the flip side Lost Universe was terrible in English at times. I thought Slayers, Lodoss, and El Hazard were nicely done in English as well, but that could be nostalgia talking as those were some of the first shows I watched. Mostly I prefer English for 'background' anime while I'm doing other things, but if I'm focused on watching, it really depends on the cast and director. For the most part, I can watch and enjoy either way. Wow. you are amazing. I just read your post after I posted already, & I have to agree with you on most of these! (Though I never did watch Lost Universe, aside from some clips, so I don't know about that one..) |

Lucky Star was a good english dub. Usually I like shows with english when I am not entirely focused on it, like when I'm eating or something. But I prefer subs in most occasions when I can focus entirely on the show.

Todd Haberkorn is an amazing voice actor. Watched a lot of anime with him in it. (Almost anything dubbed by Funimation where there is a 10-15 year old boy.) On topic, if there is a dub, I will seek it out. I've watched a lot of dubbed anime, I've not always watched the subbed versions, but in the cases that I have or atleast done a comparison, I wouldn't say any are better, but I would say they are just as good. People are just too god damn picky. A lot of Japanese can be really annoying to listen to, just like some English people. DBZ is a key example, god damn Goku sounds terrible with his Japanese voice, but in English it's great. One Piece, the dub by that 4kids or whatever the hell it is was like someone was sticking hot irons into my ears, but the funimation version is awesome. (I've watched every episode up to now so this is one that I definitely have a solid comparison to go off) I think people are just too picky. If I could speak and understand Japanese without the subtitles, I think I could be a better judge of the voice acting, but in all honesty, even if they are terrible, it still sounds pretty much the same. Sure you can tell the way their voice changes and stuff depending on the situation, but it could be like the worst acting ever. People say that all japanese voices are superior, but they probably don't take that into account. |
