My son-in-law and I will be attending for the first time this year. We have been to Comic-con in San Diego twice now. Being from Arkansas, A-kon is an easy drive for us so much cheaper. Looking forward to all that A-kon and Dallas has to offer.

I'm glad that A-Kon, being as big of a convention as it's become, is moving into the Hilton Anatole. The Anatole is HUGE if none of you have been to it yet. I went for the past several Quakecons and pretty much every room and hallway is giant. There are plenty of lobby-ish areas that are spacious as well that would serve as great hangout spots. There is also a large courtyard/park-like area with benches, park lights, and a cute fountain that would be great for cosplay photoshoots too.

I've been to every A-Kon since A-Kon 13 and I'm so happy that they've moved venues. It would help tremendously with elevator waits and congested hallways. The only thing that is a downside is that the Anatole is an upscale hotel so the restaurants that are inside are quite pricy. No more Plaza of the Americas and cosplays on ice readily available. T__T There is a sushi joint that has a connected refrigerated area beside it filled with sandwiches and salads but they are all very expensive so I would try to be prepared with home-brought foods if I planned to stay the weekend there and couldn't go out. There is a Denny's down the street though but I don't particularly remember anything else.

Also for parking, if you are not staying in a room at the hotel, be prepared to pay high parking fees. When I went to Quakecon, it was $10 to park with NO in-and-out privileges so it added up pretty quickly. I don't know what it would be like if you had a room. I'm guessing parking would possibly be free only on the basis that one of the nights at Qcon, the parking attendant asked if I had a room after seeing me hold up a nondescript card (it was probably hard to see at night) and probably mistook the card, which was actually my debit, to be a room key and let me through the gate without having to pay. >_>

Also, the lot will probably be packed (I know it was for Qcon) but please PLEASE do not park in unmarked areas. I saw many people park illegally in unmarked areas and would come back later that day and see those same cars with parking tickets plastered on their windows. So please be patient and try to find an open spot before parking illegally and potentially ruining your weekend with a hefty citation fine.

Anyway, I am planning on cosplaying as Taokaka from Blazblue. I wish my parents hadn't sold their industrial sewing and serging machines because now I am having to find friends who know others who have sewing machines for me to use. I hope I can get it done on time this year instead of waiting until the month of the con to start. Fingers crossed!

I hope my tips help you all prepare for this new and exciting hotel change.

@Nekoroll thank you for the tips on A-kon. This will be my first time attending. My son-in-law and I are staying at the Best Western just behind the Anatole. Easy walking distance, across the street from Denney's.

Thanks for the tips on parking @Nekoroll. I was worrying over how much that would be this year.

Didn't know there were that many people on here that lived nearby.

She gives good information, there are good parking spots if you look hard enough.

Just go for the concerts. AnimeFest has the good panelists.

I'll probably apprivoise with the star driver group at the CR booth again. Other cosplays are a secret because I don't want to be noticed. I just want to drink.
