The only anime movies I remember that were released in theaters were digimon and pokemon.

If you talk to the manager at any movie theatre, you can use it play any movie you want (as a private viewing) or even play xbox.
not cheap of course.

For them to show anything else publicly requires an expensive liscense, if you could convince them that people would come see a certain movie, they may do it.

I used to work at one, and have seen the cinema used to train employees, host birthday parties, and such.

ANIME IS IN DECLINE!

It mostly has to do with the cultural difference.

Anime really isn't as popular as people would assume. Especially in Hollywood.

Depends where you are. In Asia, more then often anime movies get released. But it would be a flop in the US.

Yeah I set up a 106" home theatre in my basement.. and I watch almost all my shows there.. the beer fridge also helps XD

As for the theatre idea neat in concept but particularly in north america finding enough of a fan base for any one show would be tough. What I mean is that look at the "big 3" ( which is really just big one since nothing is close to One Piece ) you have people getting into verbal wars over simply liking or not liking any one of those so even though we are all anime fans we don't exactly all agree on what is "good".

Movies generally don't seem to spark the same sort of passion in fans its just "hey so and so is in this... might be alright" so they can appeal to a much wider generic appeal type fanbase... just my thought.

Unless it's incredibly mainstream and popular and ensures that a lot of non-Japanese theaters could draw consistently large crowds, it probably wouldn't make it into theaters. Examples like the Pokemon, Digimon movies, etc. where a lot of money can be made by the theaters, distributors, producers, etc.

The only anime I've seen in theaters were Wicked City and Akira (both at art house cinemas), and Princess Mononoke and Ponyo. I did see the live action version of Gantz courtesy of a contest I won. There were like 13 people in the theater. It all comes down to money in the end....

Unless you want to move to Japan, you will be extremely hard pressed to find any anime movies.

What is nice there are a few smaller theaters( in Vancouver at least) that have a Hayao Miyazaki marathon once in a while.
for anyone who lives in or near Vancouver it is http://www.thecinematheque.ca/ they had one this Christmas.

Thank you. I don't need to go to the movies to watch anime or any anime movies, when I got the damn movies expereince right in my apartment. No annoying fanboys or nerds, no paying for $8 popcorns, etc etc.

I've seen Akira and Princess Mononoke, I think I was pretty young back then. Also Spirited Away. My first thought was how unique those movies were, compared to the American animated films I had seen in the past.

I think they're in the process of making a live-action Akira, which makes me nervous. Especially after that Dragon Ball movie.
