Alright I just read the "who would like to marry a girl that watches anime" thread and decided I would like to give another shot at getting my wife into anime despite failing at it miserably before ( I think I tried to show her a random One Piece episode a long time ago and she described it as "nails down a chalk board" XD ).
So now I come to you my fellow anime watchers if you were trying to get a girl into anime what would you suggest as something that could pull them in and make them want to keep watching? I mean I watch everything but loading up something I might watch like say Psycho Pass to someone who has never really "gotten it" would be a waste of time. To that end I am hoping there might be some suggestions particularly from the smarter sex ( looking at you ladies ).. but suggestions from the male side are welcome as well if you have had success with this sort of thing. Whatever ends up being the most strongly recommended assuming its not completely out to lunch like berserk I will get my wife to watch and let you know the results. |

Death Notes pretty great if she likes mysteries/detective stuff. Most addictive anime I've ever watched.
What types of stuff does your wife normally watch genre wise? Romance? Drama? Comedy? Sci-fi? It'd make recommending stuff easier if we knew. |

School days is a great romance anime it really shows what a woman will do for the man she loves, as far as showing her one piece that was a horrible first choice you should of gone with something like sailor moon or even a comedy like hayate no gotoku, something with a little more finite story and not off the wall craziness. I got my wife watching anime by showing her maburaho its a cute little magical anime that also has romance, its on her as well I believe just make sure at the last episode you watch past the credits it ends the story.

Look at what books she like to read, and what movies she watches, and then get an anime in that genre, (like shoujo)

She'll love it... |

Well yes and no.. she enjoys typical TV like walking dead, game of thrones, dexter, etc. etc. and has an interesting place in her heart for BBC drama's ( ie. downton abbey ) that I don't always understand. To that end I think the key is just a really good story with characters one can get drawn in by and isn't not completely over the top.. problem is the only zombie one I really know is HOTD, closest thing to thrones I have seen is SAO lately, dexter.. well there is monster and a few good ones but I think that might be a bit dark for starters, and BBC type historical drama I haven't seen alot in anime and thats why I am hoping that people here will have some good suggestions.. As for those of you with the jokes.. not exactly helpful answers but you did make me laugh |
