What is the good and bad about Facebook? What are the reasons why to join vs not to join Facebook?

Some of my friends have Facebook and like me to join it, but I'm not so sure on it, I hear more bad things about Facebook then I do good.

How many of you have Facebook?

I hate that people use Facebook as their diary, I usually just put those people down.

It's only useful if you're trying to keep in touch with people from another country... Otherwise, it's just annoying.

It's a breeding ground for #YOLO.

It's basically a page where you get spied on both by users and the makers. I find it weird how all these thoughts used to stay in people's heads.. People on there are usually narcissistic and self consumed, worried only about how they make themselves look and getting cheap gratification to fulfill their incomplete shallow lives. Well, some people on mine were like that anyway, but that was in high school. Just join groups you like, add people you like and it's ok. gl

Facebook is great, don't see what's wrong with it.

I love Facebook - I use it to share my thoughts and adventures and a little piece of my life with the people I know and those I used to know and want to keep in touch with.
I love being able to see the lives of the people I used to go to high school with or work with. I love being able to see how they have grown and changed over the years. It's like having a reunion without the annoying reunion part (lol). I even got in touch with some that I haven't seen in 10 years and have gone to lunch with them and become friends with them again...something I didn't even realize I missed so much.

There are definitely flaws to Facebook. Never post anything that you don't want people to know about you - obviously your friends are going to be able to see something you make public on FB, but depending on your security settings, you may be sharing with their friends of friends as well. And there have definitely been instances where employers have used FB to check into potential new hires, as well as instances where someone has been convicted of crimes based off of posts they have made, and losing an existing job because of pictures posted.

To avoid that, I always think of it this way - if it isn't something you would tell your parent or your boss, don't post it. No matter your settings, Facebook is public domain and should be treated that way. If you are comfortable cussing, or talking about pimples, farts, or the person you slept with or did drugs with - go for it (but I wouldn't advise it personally).

I am also not the type to have 500+ friends on FB...that is not a reasonable amount of friends unless you are a celebrity of some sort. I don't think anyone can keep up with the posts from that many people daily, or really even be interested in that many people's mundane everyday lives. It is just too much.
I keep my list compact - I think I am at 131 friends, and I can identify and sort them by whether I went to school with them, worked with them, currently work with them, family members, or people I game with. I do read all the posts made by my friends daily. I have few enough that I can comment and keep up with their lives, their trials and tribulations, and feel like I am close to them.
Maybe that isn't for everyone, but it works for me pretty well and I truly enjoy it.

I do not have any other social networking sites though...Facebook is it for me.

It's essentially like high school reunions, instead of it being on an annual basis it happens daily.

Why do you that? Are you so insecure about yourself that you need to put people down to make yourself feel superior?

Facebook is for complete morons.. I recently deactivated my account due to dumbasses putting down my artwork just because they could never make anything better, so they feel the need to criticize. I'm glad I no longer associate myself with morons who use it.

Some other keypoints that made me resign my account:

-The term "swag"
-The term "yolo"
^These have been far overused.
-"1 like = 1 prayer , 1 share = 10 prayers for this abused animal/child with horrid disease."
-*Girl uploads photo* "OMG I'm ugly, like if you disagree"
-hackers
-Poor grammar (I know that's a stupid reason to resign, but I could not stand the mass dumbasses who are the same age as me but can not spell to save their life.)
-People thinking Facebook is Tumblr (captioning photo's/statuses with hash tags such as #I'msohot, #partying all night, #I'msuchamoron. etc.)
-The lovey dovey statuses/pictures (I mean, come on.. Who actually cares if you made out with your "boyfriend/girlfriend".)
-Facebook marriage/relationships (Those who meet on Facebook and decide to become a "couple" if you could even call it that....

There are loads more, but my memory is pretty shot right now, however I'm sure you get the point.

P.S. This is just my personal opinion so don't feel the need to jump down my throat because I think nobody intelligent uses Facebook anymore. In all honesty, in the 4 or 5 months I've been on Crunchyroll, I've discovered that the users here have 200% more intelligence than all the people I've met on Facebook since I first signed up.. Which was about late '08.

I would get it. You aren't forced to use it often. I would have it to keep in touch with distant friends or friends in general. And ya, I have facebook, heh.

One, I am superior. Two, enabling that type of behavior is worse than berating it.

This thread is pointless. Everyone knows 4chan is a better social media environment.
