No not really. Just read books period. I read Clive Barker and William Gibson when I was 15. The beauty of doing that is you get it one level when you're younger, and then you read 5 -10yrs later and you get a whole new take on it... Most young adult novels are just trying to create franchise empires ala Harry Potter anyway...

I read any books I can... Mostly in the fiction, though. I would like to say Watersong or Trylle series by Amanda Hocking... But there are some vulgar scenes within it... Oh wait. Scratch that. Those are PERFECT teen books!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is pretty much the only YA book I've read in a long while, and I love that book.
Also, Romanmink mentioned Ender's Game, but I wasn't too fond of it. I much preferred the three books to follow; Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind. Haven't read anything else in that series, but those are pretty good books~

Read the House of Night series and the Beautiful Creatures series.
They are really good. Trust me. TRUST ME!
Also, Beautiful Creatures is going to be a movie.... Kinda excited about it but not too much. Cause you never know
if they ruin it or not.

I don't understand why teenagers that are 17 and 18 insist on reading this drivel. Read any book, you're old enough to get something out of it. As a bonus you can read it again as an adult and get even more out of it because of life experience,. So, my suggestion for late teens who are almost adults is Weaveworld by Clive Barker and Eon by Greg Bear. I read both when I was 15 and they were awesome. I read them again at 30 and they were even better. Don't read books that insult the your intelligence. That being said if you're 13 stay away from Clive Barker. Although the show young kids watch are pretty graphic themselves. How many teenagers watch Dexter or True blood?
