I read it in English class and hooked on it.
Just like Peter Pan, only darker.

On side story of Simon and Jonathan are what kept me to read these books. If these character's not in, i wouldn't read it.

If anyone likes Teen Horror, try ANYTHING by Darren Shan.

He's written:

The Cirque Du Freak series (vampires)
Saga of Larten Crepsley (prequel)

Demonata (demons and such)

Zom-B (zombies)

he's an amazing writer and instantly draws you in!

Some of what the people suggested here... Trylle Triology? That's a horrible series and the main heroine gets with guy out of no where after going... " I love you main guy 1 !!! WHY CAN'T YOU MAN UP AND LOVE ME!!" then later... " I don't care that you're down and begining on my knees ready to run away with me! I have a new guy, lolz." That series pisses me off. I'm also scared of the House of the Night as my friend has told me there is a forced sexual move on a male by a female, and just...no. I know it's bad news.

I suggest, reading a book named Vessel a YA book. It's pretty good and the romance turned out to fresh and unlike other romances this days.

Not a "teen" author but for the love of god, please read Christopher Moore. You Suck is the only vampire book for me. I did kinda like the Sookie Stackhouse books too but Moore is just a really clever writer. I don't think any teen would be interested in the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel either but, they are great books and your English teacher would be very impressed with a book report on one of those.

Haven't read any good Young Teen novels in a long time as I'm starting to read more adult theme books as most teen books end in ways that don't satisfy me. Then again here are some I really do love:

Perks of Being a Wallflower
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Speak
Its Kind of a Funny Story
Silent to the Bone
Catcher in the Rye
Dreamhouse Book Series
Hunger Games Series
The Book Thief

I'm sorry, I only read light novels. If you consider them "teen books", then:
Haruhi Suzumiya,
Toradora,
OreShura,
Spice and Wolf,
Boku wa Tomodachi Sukinai,
OreImo,
Monogatari series.

but I think they already have an anime adaption...

THE WAY OF SHADOWS by BRENT WEEKS. (A great addition for Tamora Pierce fans)

Best book I've read in forever. Its a trilogy the first in a trilogy, and its the best series I've read in forver too. Fantasy, politics, innumerable unpredictable plot twists, great characters and characterization, just go read it!!!

"For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art-and he is the city's most accomplished artist.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned to judge people quickly - and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics - and cultivate a flair for death."
