Sony put up a video on Youtube for a PlayStation Announcement on the 20th of February.

You can watch it here: http://youtu.be/d-3GMHIgR-U

You can sign up with your email adress at https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/ to "Be the first to know".

Those that signed up, got this mail:"RSVP to join us for a global livestream broadcast of PlayStation Meeting this February 20th, 2013 starting at 6:00pm Eastern Standard Time at this link: https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/ "

What do you think about this? Could this be the PS4 announcement, despite that Sony wanted to make Microsoft the first move?

Let me know what you all think

I think it is going to be the PS4, because Sony is sick of waiting for Microsoft and a lot of information has come out in the last few days e.g. the rumored new controller.

I think it might be the new console too! Which is good timing since my PS3 just died on me a week ago... for some unknown reasons, no power.

boy are you gonna be pissed when they say that's the announcement.. "We have decided to take the XBOX approach and start killing off PS3's at random for no reason"

Nah I wouldn't be surprised if it is the new console I mean the current generation of PS and Xbox are 5 and 6 years respectively.. what I will be curious about is all the AMD hardware in these next gen consoles if what I am hearing is any indication it sounds like sony might have learned their lesson with the PS3 and are going to try and make this next gen alot easier to create content for which would be great.

... my PS3 just has to hold out until I finish ni no kuni then I will worry about buying a new one XD

This is going to be an event in NYC. It will be streamed to the Internet. Sony confirmed that. The stream will probably show up on the meeting website: https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/
I signed up there and maybe then you'll get a link via email to the stream, if it is not on that website. I check gaming sites everyday and if I get a hint to the stream there, I can post it here, if you like me to.

As I mentioned in another post, Sony has only held 3 meetings like this in the past 15 years. 1 was for the PS2, 1 for the PS3, and 1 for the Vita. The only logical conclusion is that this will be the PS4 announcement.

It's more likely the PS4. With this hype it can't be anything else. Looking forward to it though.

I found it disappointing, nothing really jumped out for me. Graphics were nice but I expected more to be shown.

I watched some of it but after they showed Knack as the first game in the presentation I just decided to wait for the summary to read later since that wasn't much incentive to keep watching.

It took forever, but here's what it comes down to:

PS4 controller is exactly what we had seen. It also has an improved version of sixaxis controls, adopting principles from Kinect. Kinda...obnoxious. The touch pad and the motion controls will almost undoubtedly lead places that they shouldn't.

Graphics look like good PS3 graphics. That's to be expected, honestly. We've hit a wall that's going to take a while to leap over.

A cartoony 3D beat-em-up, a FPS, a driving game have all been announced. Woo. Final Fantasy seems to be coming as well, though we'll be waiting for E3 for news. Lightning Returns still hasn't come so...y'know.

Huge wall of publishers/developers working on things was posted, but just like with 3DS and Vita, something will come of maybe a third of them. Even so, it is promising to see Atlus, Gust, and Falcom there.

Basic Onlive-like functionality. Kinda boring and gimmicky, IMO.

And then Kotaku complains about there not being any female presenters. Because, you know, forced sexual diversity is clearly better than just getting people who have worked with the system to talk.

I think that's a really bad representation. You're completely ignoring the most important takeaways of the presentation.

#1) They're correcting the biggest mistake they made with the ps3 - the number one reason why we saw things like the crappy Skyrim port and a lot of games never surface. Sony has decided to make their console easy to work with and more importantly to actually speak to major developers and take feedback from them on what they want to see in the console.
#2) They're trying very hard to make the experience as friendly as possible by removing barriers. Barriers like the inability to play until you've fully downloaded, barriers like the inability to share because you don't have an expensive capture card, barriers like the inability to find a game because the ads are generic in stead of catered. They're trying to make the console learn from you and, more importantly, cater to your needs as a gamer to help make your experience easier and more fun.
#3) They're continuing their trend of heavily supporting independent developers which means more fantastic experiences cut from the cloth of Journey.

The ps4 controller is what I was hoping for. It has a lot of potential without seeming forced. The touchpad is in an innocuous place that could be easily ignored. The improved sixaxis was barely even mentioned in passing, and as such is unlikely to be forced on developers like the original was(*cough lair cough*). The share button is small and easily ignorable, but fantastic for people who want it(like me - the ability to save video direct from playing a ps4 game will make my reviews MUCH better as I'll be able to tailor video content to exactly what I want in stead of just using stock footage where its even available).

The games were a nice touch because what we saw as far as actual games go felt... realistic. Not like the promises given last generation.

I'm still a little iffy on some parts and you're right that a few of the 'features' they've talked about are a bit gimmicky, but overall that was the best presentation we could have expected, and it showcased exactly what Sony wanted - that they've created powerful hardware with a ton of features and that developers - the people who make us the games we love - are happy with it. Since this generation developers have been really ticked at Sony for their horribly unfriendly development structure, etc... this is the message that Sony wanted made very clear... and hence, they focused on that.

They still have E3 for the games, afterall.
