Which anime(s) out there have left you the most tear-sheddingly depressing state after it finished or even after a specific scene?
Not necessarily because it wasn't a complete ending or unsatisfying (by all means discuss) but simply because it was a brilliant anime and it's saddening that it's ended. Personally this is this is the list for me: - Angel Beats - Clannad + After story - Sword Art Online Many, many others What's your opinion? |

(I've added in the spoiler tags when quoting you on my own, just in case anyone else reading cares.). |

Still having doubts whether to watch the 3th upcoming movie after I saw the anime and read the manga-___-" |

End of Evangelion- That movie left me in a three day emotional funk before I was back to my normal self. I remember I watched it right arfter the end of finals one semester of college a couple years back, which for me means I was sleep deprived and mentally exhausted, which meant I was kind of drained mentally. I watched right after my last final as I'd just discovered that the movie existed it and the series, which I had just finished watching and been disatified with the ending, had an alternate movie ending that was more tradtional for lack of a better word. (Ironic for how bizarre the movie is). Without spoiling anything the movie went on to blow my mind with its strangeness especially towards the end. The movies very depressing to me as for what it says about humanity and life in general. I've never watched it again because of what it did to my mental state. Never has a movie affected me so much mentally. I doubht it would upon a second viewing but the first expirience was just so powerful I don't want to have it watered down I guess.
With spoilers: Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The depressing ends to the characters I'd come to care about like Asuka and the f***ed up Shinji and Misato started to due really hit me emotionally. I mean Misato promising to sleep with Shinji to motivate him. Shinji using Asuka's body for his own gratifications while she was mentally out of it in the hospital. The gov troops slaughtering NERVS personal without remorse. It all seemed so terribly human in such an unidealized I know thistype of stuff in real life life but never have to confront it way it made me depressed about humanity. The fact that Asuka got ripped to shreds really hit me hard as I'd come to empathize with her so much and wanted someone to finally protect and love her like she always wanted deep down. If not for that last scene in the movie where she puts her hand on his face on the beach my depressed funk would have lasted a lot longer. One More Final will always be the most touching scene I've ever watched in anime as no other has ever affected me so much. Shinji and Asuka are so messed up but the scene gave me hope that they could finally give each other the love they always wanted and needed so badly. |

I will echo that persons opinion about End of Evangelion - I have come to appreciate it as a masterpiece but wow. I'll just keep it at that.
Full Metal Alchemist (first series and movie) had many depressing moments in it for me even though I love it to this day as I saw the constant pain my favorite characters went through...such struggle and death with permanent scars and the music that accompanied it....pulled out my heart sometimes. As for people saying SAO, I personally have gone through 6 episodes and find it depressing because I just don't like it...I don't see what people loved about it just yet but I will continue on and hopefully see! I will have to think about any others when I have a moment. Good topic. |

I never saw Elfin lied so I can't make that decision yet. - Now I might have to brace myself and go watch it.
Also, it is based on only what I have seen. |

There are like 3 of these threads with the same topic and different titles.
I will say what I say to all of them. Any anime that has anything to do with Key will depress you, but they are all really good. |

"In the battlefield, there is no place for hope. What lies there is only cold despair and a sin called victory, built on the pain of the defeated. All those people who met there have wholeheartedly admitted the evil and foolishness of this act called war. As long as people don't repent and don't regard it as the most evil taboo, then hell will endlessly reappear in the world." by Emiya Kiritsugu Damn after watching that i am so in depress... |

I also was thrown into a deep funk for a few days by this. The only proper way to watch End of Eva is the way you did, right after the series, with a yearning for a real ending. Then comes getting devastated by that ending. I love it because of the impact. It suckers you with with promises of mecha and coolness, then brutalizes you with raw humanity, or at least human instrumentality. |

Evangelion as a whole (Neon Genesis Evangelion, End of Evangelion, Rebuild of Evangelion, Neon Genesis Evangelion manga, Death & Rebirth, etc.) - I could give my own reasons why, but Goomoonryong pretty much summed it up.
Texhnolyze was pretty depressing as well, just to throw another one out there. I've watched both multiple times.. they didn't leave me depressed, the word I'd describe my experience watching them is "Intriguing". |
