Hell Girl is so dark that it just kind of sucks the soul out of you. Same with Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki.

Madoka Magica was also really hard to watch, because Sayaka's story hit way too close to home.

Haibane Renmei was fine until the end, which completely destroyed me.

If we are talking about crying specifically, though, the only anime that have made me cry (besides Haibane Renmei) are Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist (NOT BROTHERHOOD), Code Geass, and Millenium Actress.

I've always wanted to watch this series but I keep hearing about how the ending seemed unclear and just depressing. Is the 'unclear' part true?

And for me probably Angel Beats...but then again I'm not thinking too hard about it. But I just really think that show was well done from start to finish. That's why I was sad it ended soooo soon. Could it have gone for more episodes? Yes. Should it have gone for more episodes? I kinda feel like maybe. It was really, really good though.

no, the ending's quite clear. it's just depressing as hell. unlike most Key stories, Air has no happy ending.

id have to go with clannad, angel beats and elfen lied. btw for those whove seen all of keys stuff which one is the saddest or has the saddest moment in it?

Guilty Crown - This takes the cake by far. It is one of the best animes I've ever seen. And the intro song alone...
When it ended, with it's ending. Man, I practically bawled. And I'm a man, for goodness sake. I've been to funerals where I felt guilty for not feeling sad, but this...this killed me. It was so beautiful. You must watch it. Must.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - I let out a few manly tears at the ending. 'Nuff said.

Un-Go - Mainly sad that it ended. It was so good. In twelve episodes I felt like I had watched the show for 100 episodes. Not sure how. I fell right into its world.

Angel Beats - the ending was depressing, seems like a lot of you agree.

Buso Renkin. It's not really depressing, actually. But I got so connected to it that when I finished all the episodes it took me almost two weeks to get out of the slump of sadness that there wouldn't be any more.

Finally, someone's heard of it.

The first 4 episodes of Aoi Bungaku are absolute depression, since it's a story about a man trying to kill himself written by a man who eventually committed suicide shortly after his novel was finished.
