Its better to be overdressed Than underdressed as it seems that you didn't make an effort if you came to underdressed

Considering my wardrobe consists of a conservative, efficient, yet boring outfit made of a Hoodie, Polo top, long-sleeved Undershirt, and a Tank top, I almost never run into a case in which I am Over-dressed or Under-dressed.
...
I wish. Anyways, I'd rather be Over-dressed, so I will be ready if the weather decides to get on it's period, I won't be bitching about how I totally forgot to get that coat. FML.

I find that wearing a tuxedo 24/7 is the most effective solution. If anyone asks me why I'm dressed so formally, I can just say "huh? I always wear this." On top of that, I can go to any event in my "casual wear," and treat anyone that dresses more casually than me like a bum, because my casual wear is a tuxedo. Let the peasants talk -- it's not like their opinions matter anyway.

Edit: For actual tuxedo events, I like to add a top hat, cane, and monocle... can't afford to be the only one without them, right?

I'm always told I'm overdressed or dressed up I would never be caught out in give-up-on-life-pants. (sweatpants/ pajama pants)

I tend to go overdressed. I once showed up to what I thought was a semi-formal event, and everyone else was wearing SWEATCLOTHES!!!! Awkward. Well, at least most of the attendees were blind, so it's not like they could tell, lol.

The trick is to find a an outfit that looks snazzy in any situtation. Made of casual clothes, but together they look trim, so it can go both ways.

(For some reason I think of Chieko in Princess Jellyfish, wearing a kimono. It's all in the framing....)

omg i would have died. That reminds me of this one time, a friend and I got all dolled up for another friend's birthday party. but when we got there and peaked into the dance hall, everyone was in sweats and tank tops. We immediately got into the car, went home, changed and droveback before anyone saw us lol

Use the birthday suit, it's suitable for all occasions and saves a lot of suitcase room!

Underdressed is worse. My most casual attire is Lucky Brand jeans, a nice dress shirt & some Clarks dress shoes. I have found that I am treated with much more respect & promptness when dealing with people than those who are in casual wear.

P.S.

Single guys I'm telling you that dressing up, wearing cologne (The best daily cologne is CK Crush) and having a nice watch will get the ladies to notice you. I guarantee I wouldn't have my girlfriend if I dressed in t-shirts and poorly fitted jeans.

I think that to be under dressed at a formal event is way worse that being a little to fancy at a non formal event. Because if it´s a formal event you could give an impression that you are careless or that you don´t think the event is as important then it really is. Imagine that you would show up in your everyday clothes (jeans or such) at your brothers/ sisters/uncles.... wedding or that you wore a suit to school. Which one is the best situation?
