Even though the Winter 2013 season is well underway already, we do have a surprise new simulcast announcement for you!

Straight Title Robot Anime will be coming to Crunchyroll starting Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 8:45am PST, for Crunchyroll audiences worldwide except Japan!

Straight Title Robot Anime, known in Japan as “Chokkyū Hyōdai Robot Anime”, is the first anime series to actually be produced with the freeware animation program MikuMikuDance, which lets users animate and create 3D animation, originally used for creating music videos for the Vocaloid character Miku Hatsune.

The story is centered on three robots in the year Mobile Century 8013, a time when humanity has already been wiped out but remaining military robots continue to fight. Three robots, Fuji, Katō, and Mori, stand up to try and put an end to this war that has been going on for over seven millennia.

KEI, the illustrator famous for designing Vocaloid Miku Hatsune, as well as other Vocaloids Rin and Len Kagamine, Luka Megurine, and Lily, is also handling character design for Straight Title Robot Anime. Director Kōtarō Ishidate, also known for his work on gdgd Fairies and Boku-no-imoutowa”Osaka-okan”, will be overseeing scripts and direction. The cast features Asuka Nishi, Ursula Abramov from Bodacious Space Pirates and Hakata Hanamori from Ebiten, as Fuji, Miho Arakawa, known for her role as Himari Takakura in Penguindrum, as Katō, and Rumi Ookubo, Chinatsu Yoshikawa from YuruYuri and Pisti from Magi, as Mori.

I used to love watching robot shows with my brother as a kid. Can't wait to give this experimental anime a try! Thanks, Crunchyroll!

I guess I'll give this a try CR, straight up mecha anime minus the humans is different for me

I've checked the TV schedule, and looks like it's 15 minutes minus commercials long. And in the trailer that I've seen, the animation style is hideous. I know it's made with a freeware program, but I've seen Source Filmmaker videos on YouTube with more quality than this.

Hmm--I don't really know what to say. I think I'll wait and see what reviews say because this could be really good or VERY BAD for the wrong reasons.
