There may have been "proto-metrosexuals" in the 16th centruy but there have always been men that werent effeminate that wore jewelry too. Kings, princes, and noblemen all wore jewelry. Even Egyptian pharaohs wore jewelry. Wearing jewelry is now looked at now as something effeminate instead of a symbol of status and wealth due to our severly homophobic society.
