Also, what do you think of the form of ignorance where people simple deny facts without any research of these facts? That is the most unscientific mindset ever. Even scientist are guilty of this.

The denial of facts does not make the facts untrue.
Just because it does not fit in your paradigm does not make it false.

Edit: Can any of you mods fixed my title, please?

There's a difference between being open minded, and being down-right outrageous.

I agree with this post but most of the "facts" YOU post are complete bunk and are from pseudo-science and conspiritard sources that have largely and laughably been disproved by research (and common sense).

Haha I know where this thread came from. Although I adhere to most scientific "facts" I also keep in mind that in science "facts" can change and there is still much we don't know. I don't rule out most possibilities but I have things I believe to be most likely, there's a difference between having an open mind to things and believing in things.

Anger is a weakness, Carbokill. Also, I don't believe in most things on the internet since they are mostly lies. You have failed in your assumption, Carbokill.

Very true Vega.

Just because someone thinks the truth is false doesn't change what it really is. People can still believe what they want to believe, that in itself is fact. Yet they can not ignore what is real, cos to do so will endanger themselves and others.

I believe that the only people guilty of these are the delusional ones that think they are better than a select few (or everybody, in extreme cases). Because they can't think of anything to prove others wrong (which signifies that they are no better than them), they resort to artificial means of putting these other people below them, such as calling them names and attempting to make them feel inhuman. These people have suffered through traumatic pasts, and need to be shown a proper amount of affection in order for their psychological problems to be cured.

They seem to go hand-in-hand, but they differ. Some don't allow new information into their minds unwillingly, which is close-mindedness. If they willingly keep knowledge out, it's obviously the other option.

Facts are not universal truths. Each fact depends on the measuring system and it limitations and the scope of the human mind to comprehend them. Development of new facts depends on thinking outside the box.

A great example is a photo of a house. The outer surface is brick on the side facing you. Are you going to assume that it is brick on the sides you can not see. Are you assuming that it is brick and not a good faux paint job.

As for close mindedness and willful ignorance. It is work to figure what is the truth or facts behind statements people make. Often one can not get the most basic information about their facts, even with the internet. It is easy to accept keep one's current mindset in interpret every thing though those rose colored glasses.

for fun look at xkcd's comic #285.

Erratum,

For 'Facts', read 'Fiction pulled from the Weekly World News'

For Closed Mindedness and Ignorance, read 'Has Common Sense'

For Open Mindedness read 'Gullible'.
