High budget but crappy story and characters. I mean really, some ppl funnel money into some poorly written stuff.

I just realized i have never really watched anything else than the standard shonen (Naruto, One Piece, Bleach) and Shojo, Romance, Harem, Slice of Life, High School - stuff haha!

Well, but i'm not really into the sports/meccha stuff, and if i did. It would proably be because of the other genres mixing into it.

Yeah those other types are usually the more popular types so people would most likely be watching those compared to others

Haha yeah, I saw someone wrote that they didn't like Gore and Horror Anime. Horror seems like it could be pretty cool, and have to check out gore, just to see what it's like.

Yeah I'd like to see what Gore is like too

Depending on the show itself I could probably watch a sci-fi theme show

Most harem shows. The idea of four or more beautiful girls all falling deeply in love with a complete loser with a heart of gold is just too unrealistic. Plus not only do they all love him they don't even try to date other guys thats how devoted to the main character they are. Too formulaic and boring. Also appies to reverse harems(Ouran High School). I love romance in shows but harem just goes nowhere real. I'd rather a show ignore romance (like Bleach) than inflict harem upon the audience.

I'll read harem manga sometimes ocassionly. A friend got me hooked on Nisekoi as a guilty pleasure though its annoying knowing the girl I want to get the guy won't as shes not one of the two main girls. But I also hate to see it drag down good series like its doing to The Breaker: New Waves(Part 1 of the Breaker was much better for not indulging in harem).

I'm half with you. I don't like harem shows but I love reverse harems. The reverse harems I've seen it's probably one or two of the guys actually have feelings for the girl and the rest just support. Plus I like the thought of a girl having 4 or 5 boys surrounding her (maybe cause I want that lol)

To each they're own I haven't watched a lot of reverse harems but if you say that the rest of the guys support one or two of the others then they don't sound so bad. Maybe I'll have to check some out. If you have any really good ones youd recommend let me know and I'll give them a shot. I hated Ouran mostly because it was too unrealistic and lighthearted and I didn't find the comedy funny.

Actually I started watching Hakuoki recently(big Shinsengumi fan) and its more like you're describing and I 'm enjoying it though all the guys focusing on the heroine is annoying at times. I actually really liked the Hakuoki prequel series(I watched it first) as it was very historically accurate for an anime(vampire ripoffs aside) and the original character isn't the focus of the other characters' attention but more like a fly on the wall at times. The first season of the original show isn't as good to me though as its beginning to really diverge from history and I haven't watched an epsiode in a while as I'm enjoying other shows more.

I'm not suprised a lot of posters seem to find mecha hard to get into. I am the same with "bad" mecha. If a show is all about robot fights and not characters and plot then I find it dull as dirt.

"Good" mecha on the other hand I love. For those who are trying to get into mecha but just can't seem to find a series to get into I have some recommendations that might change your opinion of the genre.

Neon Genesis Evangelion- A must see show for all anime fans. You'll either love it or hate it. Think its a masterpiece or a convoluted piece of crap. Theres really no in between with this series but it tackles a lot of the tropes of the genre and turns them on their head. Watch this all the way through and you'll be a more rounded anime fan for it. I'll note that the Rebuild movie series is a completely different animal and makes for a pretty good gateway into mecha. I like Rebuild but its more generic and lacking the edge of the original to give it more mass appeal.

Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket- If you hate Gundam on principal or simply find the evergrwoing mecha battles boring as dirt I challenge you to watch this OVA Series. Its less than 4 hours long and includes almost no mobile suit battles. Instead it focuses on characters and plot. The name War In the Pocket refers to the smaller scale of the story. Its the best Gundam series ever in my opinion and if you don't like it I doubht any other Gundam series will be your cup of tea. Check this out immediatly it might cause you to reevaluate your opinion of the Gundam franchise. It follows the story of a boy named Al that lives on a neutral colony during the One Year War(the war thats the focus of the original TV show). A Zeon military team lands on the colony with orders to destroy the Gundam being developed there. Al becomes friends with a young, green pilot named Bernie and Al begins to assist the team in their plans after dicovering Benie's true identity. While this premise does sound childish and light hearted this series is not cartoony and its plot is very serious. The characters and story are well written. Just go watch its the length of a typical movie almost!

Code Geass R1(Season1)- Great interesting series in its first season. The focus on mecha battles is negligible and the core premise is very interesting. I won't bother going into detail about this series as its quite famous. Season 2 falls into the pitfalls of most mecha series and if you don't like the genre I wouldn't recommend it.

I haven't seen a lot myself but I think Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers is a good one. The Wallflower is another one. For both of those it's better to read the manga compared to the anime. Fruits Basket is a good one never read the manga though.

1. Shows that portray humanity as a horrifying species with little to no hope of retribution. Some seinen falls here. GANTZ

2. Shows that are so bad or ironic that it starts to make me sympathize with the view in category 1. Some ecchi falls here. B Gata H Kei

3. Yuri and yaoi. Strawberry Panic

Sports anime (they drag out a game way too long with pointless dialogue and creates unnecessary tensions like Slam Dunk and Prince of Tennis).
Also shows like Bakemonogatari. It turned me off after the first minute with the text...

hentai, yaoi/yuri.

I've not watched any fully, and from what I've heard and seen there isn't any that I would enjoy.

ecchi I have to admit I have seen, since highschool of the dead I believe counts as it.

On the whole, I've seen virtually none of them because for me there's no story or anything of enjoyment.

There's also Wolf's Rain. That's the only anime show so far that I have abandoned to watch it all the way. I think it was the clip show type eps before half way that made me lose interest. A recap is fine, especially if it's an arc filled with events and action but there's no need for a recap if every ep does it already at the beginning.
