No it's not a joke. It was horrible and everyone I know how watches anime consistently agree with me. It's just my own opinion though, you are welcome to your own.

Well of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion; or so they say. May I ask why you think it's horrible?

Well I grew up with dubs, but I tend to like subs better because of the fact that the voice acting for anime in Japan is all around better. Sure there are some dubs that were great (in my opinion) like FMAB, FMA and DBZ, but most dubs to me lower quality acting and that really takes me out of the story of an anime that I watch.

I watched the subbed version first and I loved every bit of it. I think that may have been my issue. I was so used to the fantastic subbed version that when I caught an episode of the dubbed version on TV, I couldn't handle it. Compared to the subs it just wasn't very good. Like for Batou, his Japanese voice actor had a much deeper, stronger voice then the English voice actor.

I think this supported idea that dubs generally lack quality is ridiculous. I agree some anime shows lack good dubs, like Cardcaptor Sakura. I watched & adored that show growing up, and I watched it on tv so it was dubbed. Itwasn't until I watched some of the subbed episodes that I realized how horrible and off the american version was! It was sad for me 'cause I love the characters' voices in english way better. Anyway, most dubs I see are just as great. I personally prefer subs over dubs for my favorite animes. I find the English voices are much more diverse in tone and accent, but I endure subs because I need to watch my favorite shows raw.

As for shows I watch occasionally, if the dubbed version is available and if I find it's just as good as the raw version, no cut-out scenes or completely different dialogue, then I watch it.

I think there is already a thread for this.

And Subs, because dubs can never live up to the orginal.

^This.....and because sometimes the voices they choose for the dubbing are ridiculous choices. I watched "Darker than Black" and Misaki Kirihara's character's voice in the dubbed version sounded like a high pitched teenage girl (annoyed the hell out of me) .....she's supposed to be a tough woman cop. In the original her voice is a deep woman's voice, the way it should be.

Dubs also leave things out. I don't like that.

I will watch sub if there isn't a dub or if the dub is awful. I mostly prefer dub, just sounds more natural to me.

Subs, Japanese isn't a Germanic language, I think it loses some of it's punch when it's translated/dubbed.

On a side note, Fate/Zero is getting a dub (if anyone didn't already know). Don't judge the voices based on a 1 minute video either if you watch it, for obvious reasons. I wonder if Mela Lee is going to voice Rin Tohsaka like in the other adaptations. Saber's VA is different in all three of them now. Kari Wahlgren will make a great Saber I'm sure, just like Kate Higgins and Michelle Ruff before her.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2013/02/06-1/fatezero-english-dubbed-to-run-on-neon-alley

So is Accel World, there's one for Tiger and Bunny, and Blue Exorcist. All of this thanks to Neon Alley, only wish it wasn't a console service and only for the PS3 at that.

I was as skeptical about Neon Alley as a lot of people, but I'm pleasantly surprised with it honestly. Would like it MORE if it was a normal tv channel and not a constant stream, as that has given me a few problems if my intrenet drops for even a second. In my eyes it's still worth the sub though. Great lineup atm and some HUGE shows listed as Coming Soon.

As for the Fate/Zero dub...seems like they made good choices as the whole thing sounds very solid overall. The two characters I was most concerned about were berserker and caster, since their voices kinda define them in the original. Berserker sounds great though...just like an English speaking berserker! Caster...well he sounds crazy, but no where near as looney as the japanese actor. That's a tough act to follow though. Overall my anticipation for this is really high...seriously excited for it to start airing.

I perfer subs becasue i can watch the show right after it airs in japan. unlike the dub that you have to wait a whole year and a half for the showsyou wanna watch. due to licencing issuses. also the dub almost always pales in comparision to the original.

Sub are almost always better because most anime do a shitty job at dubbing...
...If the dub is well done... then I have no problem with either of them...

I like both. But it depends on how much I can tolerate the voices.
For example I watch DBZ in English because I can't stand Goku's Japanese voice.

Or how well they are voiced. Like how I prefer Fruits Basket and FMA in English.

It doesn't really matter which. Some of the anime I watched aren't licensed by anyone in the US so I'll just watch it subbed.
