I used to be dubs over subs, but as i watched more subs i realized that emotions and feelings felt more "honest"...more "Genuine" when you watch it with the original audio track. Dubs sometimes sound plain forced...

Yea and they also have the dialogues for obvious reasons, which leads to my second though of Japan being less strict with what is said in an Anime than the US does.

Raw, most of the time. If there's a character that's really hard to understand or if it's harder to find Raw versions, I'll watch subbed. I prefer not read while trying to watch something at the same time, and a lot of subs tend to translate things really weird from what I've noticed, and that always irks me. There's a different between changing the line to make more sense in English and completely changing what the sentence is saying. Also, a lot of subs before the whole professional simulcast stuff started becoming more common really liked to insert swear words in places they didn't belong, to make the show seem 'edgier' than it actually was.

I very rarely watch dubs for anything, regardless of what the original language is. It's incredibly hard for a dub to carry the same emotion and feel of the original product, and the majority of the time, a lot of the quality in the acting is lost.

Subs for sure. The one anime I watched dubbed was Haruhi and I don't recall it being too bad, but most dubs make my ears bleed. Their voice acting is so bland and emotionless compared to the Japanese versions.

prefer dub because I grew up with it Toonami. but i hate when i can't see how nice an anime looks when im payin attention to all the words.

Depends on a number of factors. Dubs are easier on the eyes and concentration. Subs sometimes give a better feel for the content, emotional and otherwise. Subs sometime have irritatingly high and unnatural voices. Dubs sometimes just don't capture the character.

I've seen enough good dubs to tend to dismiss the ant-dub hate as a degree of hipsterism (I'm cooler than you because I watch the ORIGINAL show)

most of the time it's whatever I happen to watch first. Once a character's voice is 'set' for me I find it hard to watch in another format. That said I can think of a few anime where I've switched between dubs and subs....

... Overall all I'd say I come down slightly more on the side of Subs. or would if it weren't for all the anti-dub hipsters and my contrary streak.

Almost always sub. If the companies would hire people with actual voice acting talent I'd be OK with dub. I do like to hear the original anyway, and I pick up a few words here and there. But the horrible voice acting always throws me off dub.

This would have been true in the 80's and early 90's but not so much anymore.

Pretty much yeah. There's still some pretty bad dubs being produced, but the majority are pretty nice.

There's bad subs too, as well as good. I don't think people realize that.

They're funny sometimes when they're really bad, but even official subs can take away a lot from what was intended.

Those, and I mean the actual Japanese cast of the show. The voices can stink and it could be horrible just like everyone is claiming dubs are. Yes, translations do that, because they're translations and with translations it's impossible to get it 100% word for word. If you want to know every single little thing that's said learn the language and boom, you won't even need subs anymore.

Oh yeah, a lot of animes do not have a great Japanese voice cast. Of course the translations are going to be off, even languages with the same roots lose bits when translating. And Japanese and English aren't similar at all.

Japanese is a fairly hard language to learn, so I can understand why a lot of people don't bother learning it just for a "hobby" of theirs.

Depends...I kinda like not having to read subs so I can focus more on what's going on on screen, but I'll always just do the sub if no dub is available or the dub is unbelievably bad (see 4kids...lol).

4kids had some decent (if not great) dubs.
