I remember a friend teling me that the Japanese preferred the english dub of Code Geass to the original Japanese cast. Even the director himself had said so. It was in a commentary of the anime itself.

No preference. After all if I did, I wouldn't watch Toonami on Saturday nights and wouldn't have attempted to watch the Gintama film. (Which, by the way, had a decent dub and I congratulate Sentai Filmworks for trying.)

Subs for every anime ever except for these... Akira, Gundam Wing, DBZ, Vampire Hunter D, and Cowboy Bebop. And thats mostly just because I grew up seeing them in English and after so many years, watching them in Japanese is just... weird.

But yeah anything new, or anything else, I almost exclusively watch them in subs. I saw the trailer for the dubbed version of SAO, I shuddered and had to stop it before the end, what a travesty.

Subbed, I have never had issues with watching the show and reading the subs at the same time, because i usually read with my peripheral vision and watch normally.

Subbed... I started with dubbed, but once I went subbed for the first time I never went back. Just not the same with the original voices.

I'm just gonna chuck my voice in with the many here.

I prefer dubs; however, my biggest problem with them is that they often don't subtitle important text that appears on screen.

The most horrid offender I've seen would be Evangelion, and Mawaru Penguindrum comes to mind as well.

it depends on the seiyuus. i tend to watch tomokazu sugita's and rei kugimiya's and asami eto's sub because they're my favourites.
i tend to watch english dub when the japanese one is horrible.
also, because of Chris Sabat and Crispin Freeman. I saw Chris Sabat at a Oz Comic-Con a few months ago.

I wish I join this thread earlier. Hopefully, not too late for discussion.

Honestly, I prefer Anime in Japanese version over English because usually in English are not accurate to what is said in Japanese. I don't like dubbed in English. I loved the voices in the original. Voice acting in the US simply doesn't have the kind of talent pool to draw from that the Japanese have and Most of the time the Japanese voices simply fit better, in my opinion.

Sub. It's better. Some dub amines don't have nice voices in it and it makes it less attractive to me idk

Either way I am fine as long as the ADR is done well.

I have a different point of view from a lot of the viewers becuase I am a trained voice actor/actor and so I know how the work is done .Especially when one is acquainted with some of the voice talents, I am more interested to hear how the work they put on their characters. How believeable they sound . and Its not easy . Its much easier for the seiyuu.

Although I would watch it first with the original and then rewatch it again with the dub , but I must say there are some seiyuu style of acting for certain characters doesnt sit well with me either and I am not saying who coz I might open a can of worms .

But I am noticing to hear less variety of the female voices in the US side since there are lesser company who are doing the ADR work.

Since a lot of the anime are high school anime , the Japanese side has so many agency and has tons of females seiyuu that you hear a variety of the quality of voice tones

depends on the anime for me and it depends on if it was meant to be subbed or dubbed.
if it was made to be a dubbed anime it will likely sound a lot better. some dubs i really hate because they make the girls voices to high pitch and it makes them more annoying.
all in all though i think i prefer subbed it just seems to fit better but some dubs are actually awesome and i love them, like i sad it just depends
