Most dubs, to me, are like scratching fingernails on a chalkboard.

And this goes both ways. For example, anime in English dubbed language doesn't sound right or seem to fit the show. Flip that and I'll use Japanese dubbing in an English movie, for instance Resident Evil Damnation. The English is more suitable for the video than the Japanese voice overs.

My general rule of thumb is that if there is a dub, I'll at least give it a try. So far this has worked for me. Granted, I find dubs that suck ass (Clannad and all the kids in GTO. Besides that, the dub cast for GTO is actually pretty good), but sometimes I get great dubs (like Death Note). Although most of the time I find that "highschool" shows have annoying dubs, mainly because the english voice actors dont seem good at dubbing younger people (especially the girl voices). Hell, even in death note Misa's voice was annoying (but that was fine because she was supposed to be an annoying kid).

Overall I watch both but if it is a school show it'll probably be subbed and everything else dubbed. But that doesnt mean I'll wait a year for a dub. If a show doesnt have a dub, I'll watch it subbed (so most of my anime's are subbed).

Misa wasn't really a kid, she was 19-20 at the start, near the end 24-25. Unless you meant her maturity, then yes it was lacking a bit.

Depends on the series. For shows like Inuyasha, Naruto, Bleach -frickin long anime I prefer dubs.

I most definitely prefer subs, since i think it gives more depth to the series/films, this goes for both anime/films.

the only dubbed anime I've seen and enjoyed more than the original version is Full Metal Panic

B-But the Godzilla movies dubbed are awesome in the most terrible way possible!
I can understand why people don't like dub live action. It's an acquired taste, sort of like B-movies.

Because I have seen more subs, it's subs for me. Anyone who says that so many dubs lack the emotion/voices don't fit, etc., I can tell that essentially any anti-dub argument (save the for censoring stuff) can also be applied to the sub versions,

Subs. Dubs if the anime is set in America.

Most of the time if the dub is decent then I will watch the dub beause I'm to lazy to read haha XD One dub that I can say that is better than the original is Hetalia because they have accents with each country.

Also on another note, I think why people generally think dubs suck is because English isn't a flowing language like Japanese. For example, let's compare Chinese and Japanese. Chinese is a more choppy language and Japanese flows better which can be compared to English/German and all the romance languages such as Italian/Spanish/Potuguese (though I wouldnt consider french "flowing"). Notice how romance languages tend to flow more than German/English. If you don't know why I'm grouping English and German is because English is a Germatic based language such as romance languages are Latin or romance (Rome). So that's why I think people tend to dislike English. I could be completely wrong.

It depends on how I started watching the show. I could never watch Bleach dubbed because I started watching it subbed. I could never watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood subbed because I watched it dubbed. I don't really think better of either, just depends on what I hear first lol.

Sub, that way I get the show as it was made. Not a changed or altered version.

I'm like this too. Enough people have posted this that I thinks its fairly common thing to get used to one set of voices/cast for a series.
