For those of you who have been enjoying AKB0048: next stage, we've got news for you! The first season, AKB0048, featuring Japan's favorite idol group, will finally be available on Crunchyroll!

AKB0048 will have the same regions as AKB0048: next stage, meaning it will be available to Crunchyroll audiences in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, South and Central America.


“At the start of the 21st century, an interplanetary war broke out. Earth's ecosystem was severely damaged, and humanity was forced to flee the planet. On several planets of this new society, things that ‘disturb the heart’ like music and art are forbidden.

Before the people called ‘Idols’ fell into ruin, the legendary idol group AKB48 is resurrected as the interplanetary troupe AKB0048, made up of girls who carry on the title and spirit of the original members. Held as heroines by some and labeled as terrorists by others, they must take up arms to bring their music to their fans wherever they are.”

AKB0048 will be launching this Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 7:30am PST, the same time that new episodes of AKB0048: next stage are launched. 2-3 episodes will be made available each week, for both free and premium users!

Oh, good! My backlog's ginormous, but it's still good to know for when I finally get around to watching it.

I enjoy the second season so far. Thank goodness crunchyroll gets the first season also. There no point watching the second without the first season.

Yay! I've been waiting for this so I can watch season 2 and know what's going on

Two days ago I downloaded all the fansubs from season 1 and marathonned them in one day to get caught up so I could watch season 2 here, since it was far enough into the season I'd given up on CR getting the first season. TWO FREAKING DAYS AGO. If only I'd waited a couple more days. No mind, though, I will watch it again here to make sure they get their ad money. It's totally and completely worth the re-watch. This is a spectacular series, and I'm cheering that CR finally got the rest of it. The premise is way the hell out there, but they make you care about the characters, and that's what really counts. Not to mention the music is awesome.
