Why making it artificially harder for Canadians to win?

Funimation has like, licensing rules...

If this was a CR only contest it wouldn't matter.

ALSO, WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT !?!?!?!

So basically what we're supposed to do is draw the characters we see them as?? Or do they already have pre-established character? Does it have to actually be like a story? I need an example or something..

it's not very clear whether you have to draw -tans for all of them, or have the freedom to pick just one. If it's for all of them then I'm not sure a $500 pack of DVDs is really worth all that effort :L
Does anyone know if it's for just one or all (and if there is reference material for their gijinka/~tan forms)?

I am just going to predict the result for crunchyroll. The winning mascot is going to look like you, I bet it

We all know it is going to happen though so almost everyone is just going to draw sailorbee rofl.

At least everyone entering the contest from the crunchyroll side...

In the LEGAL RULES (Yes, I've actually read them), 7th paragraph, 3rd sentence.

I understand there are practical reasons why only only people from the US and Canada can participate. But why a winner from Canada gets a skill-testing question while a winner from the US simply gets the prize isn't really explainable with licensing rules. It looks like unfair discrimination.

This isn't the first contest I've seen which requires it. I'm pretty sure it's a requirement by Canadian law (or something to bypass something in Canadian Law with prizes and the like in them).

Though that's just my own conjecture and probably from something I've read somewhere that I'm vaguely remembering with no definitive thought though.

[Edit] Actually I bothered googling it afterwards, it is Canadian law: http://contests.about.com/od/sweepstakes101/f/caskillquestion.htm

I kinda like the canadian's method of not being completely reliant on luck but.... the skill needed really isn't that high from what I can see.

Ah, that explains everything. Thanks. Laws can be weird sometimes.

Yea, it's not meant to be a high skill requirement. Honestly I wouldn't expect the question involved in this to be anymore more difficult than 'Name the main character of X anime'. It's just to satisfy the requirement of the law.

This would be awesome, but the time frame is pretty short. If I actually get time I might make a solid attempt, but looks like it'll mostly just be something I throw together if I get a chance, especially considering my lack-luster drawing skills already

Its completely and blatently discriminating against canadians its got nothing to do with licensing and Funimation knows it. They feel most canadians dont watch anime or some crap so they want to make sure they arent getting any help from anyone else by having them answer a anime question before getting their prize. Honestly i wont enter a contest where the rules arent the same for everyone and where someone or a group of someones is being dicriminated against and having it made more difficult to get the grand prize. Everyone else enjoy but im sitting this one out.

For answering simple trivia, it's what others said - I too did some googling before and Canada has different laws about contests so as to avoid illegal lotteries, which involves the element of luck. To get rid of "luck", some sort of skill must be added, hence answering questions. It may seem like discrimination to those not used to it, but to those in Canada it is because of Canadian law.

I also know someone who lives in Quebec, and she said that the official language there is both French and English, and she thinks that for a contest to be valid in Quebec, it would have to be translated to both languages to give everyone in Quebec an equal chance, so she thinks that's why Quebec is often excluded in contests, but I dunno how accurate that is in terms of legality.

And I've got all my lines in and CR-tan is all colored! She was so fun to draw <3

Still gotta finish shading Aniplex-tan and Funimation-tan. I foresee another late night.. XD Aiming to finish by Tuesday.

Look, the skill would be in the drawing, because the would be judged on that. Besides it doesn't really matter because i'm sure they'll only quiz you on simple common anime knowledge or on shows you've seen.
