How much weight can you lift?
|
My question is primarily for guys who lift heavy weights but anyone can take part.
What I want to know is how much you can lift now and what weight you started on? I also want to know how long you've been training for? use 1 rep max if you know it (if not then whatever you do) and list any type of lifts you like i.e: bench press, shoulder press, bicep curl, dead lift etc... The reason I want to know is because whenever research weight training I can never find what the really strong guys started on and I want to start training as well. |

All the strong guys started with the lightest weights. It is better to build your body up with smaller weights than to hurt yourself by trying to do too much. Unless you want to become a professional weight lifter and see where you stack up to the competition, 1 rep maxes do absolutely nothing for you.

My routine: start out with a ton of cardio, get your heart pumping, than proceed to lift weights, or do push ups...
Then repeat cardio over, till your heart starts pumping, than back to weights. Repeat 3-5x's for at least 30 mins a day. But most importantly, stretch first before any of this... All this while listening to some hardcore metal.^^ It's been months since I last worked out, it's too cold for me, and I get lazy very easily when it's cold. I could probably bench 180...and I weigh 196--5'10. |

No, I did start to train once but only for 5 weeks. I can bench about 112.5 kgs/248 lbs but got to 120kgs/265lbs when I was training. lordseth23 wrote: All the strong guys started with the lightest weights. Unless you want to become a professional weight lifter and see where you stack up to the competition, 1 rep maxes do absolutely nothing for you. for strength training you genrally lift 4-6 reps and should only just be able to manage the last rep, also just doing 1 rep max would improve your strengh, lifting light weights would do nothing unless you did loads of reps but then it would be endurance training. I just want to know in 1 rep max because people do different amounts of reps but 1 rep max gives a clear view of what people can lift. What I want to know is about what people started at and what strength gains they made in what space of time. |
