Whenever I am given the choice I usually pick English Dub. And honestly, I think about over 80% of the dubs done from about 2004 onward have been consistently good, some of them even amazing----^^see above list

It's not like back in the 80's -90's when it was cheaply done and 'QuickTools' wasn't invented yet. Before 'QuickTools'(I believe that's what it's called) VA's had to either talk really fast or talk really slow to match the mouth movements of their characters, and sometimes they didn't try to match it at all. Or they got really lazy and start making up stuff to say to fill-in the mouth movements like the first two Digimon series or Speed Racer *cringe*. Now they can add and reduce mouth movements to easily fit whatever the need to say. Now it just comes down to Voice casting and the script.

In my opinion, most peoples hatred for dubs stem from hearing a different VA doing the voices they're use to hearing in Japanese, and another more concentrated portion of haters that are hung-up on the use of honorifics like "senpai", "sama", "san" getting translated to "senior/upperclassman", "lord/lady", "Mister/Miss". etc. and nicknames that are Onomatopoeias like "Biri-biri"(electrical noises) . Or cultural and social puns that don't translate well to English.

And then there's portion of haters that become self-aware of the cheesy-dialog and speeches that characters give to their allies and enemies when they openly "declare their beliefs or intentions" in English. The English VA is reciting it exactly how it's presented in the subtitles, It just becomes more much apparent how cheesy that dialog actually is when it's spoken in a language you understand versus just reading off the bottom of the screen.

Said by others and definitely without a doubt, Goku.

Though I didn't get to hear much of the original voicing except for Goku, I'd say it was a job well done for all of them on the dub. Goku definitely benefited.

Baccano! for sure has the best dub I ever heard. Other close choices:

YuYu Hakusho (except Kuwabara...)
Cowboy Bebop has a good dub and good sub. Talk about sounding practically the same. XD
Ghost in the Shell also has a good sub and good dub.
You know, almost every series from the old Adult Swim days had a good dub. FLCL, Trigun, etc. Now, while the dub is pretty good for FMA, after watching the subs for Brotherhood, I ended up liking the subs A LOT more for some reason. Don't know why, really, it just happened. :/

As for everyone saying Soul Eater... I personally can't stand Soul Eater dubbed... Some of the voices are pretty good (Soul, Maka, Excalibur) but Black*Star and Death the Kid make me want to rip off my ears. They are infinitely more annoying in English than Japanese (which is saying something because BS is pretty annoying in Japanese... <.<) I also think that most of the secondary cast sounds better in Japanese than their English counterparts. I really just don't think it is a strong dub overall minus a few standout performances.
