Hello,
I am trying to watch some anime. I usually watch at 720p and on some days it works fine but on others it keeps freezing. I am trying to watch at 480p now and it is still freezing (buffering). I only started using crunchyroll recently and bought a premium membership so I though I would be able to watch at 720p+. My internet speed connection is about 90Mb/sec download tested on speedtest.net (I am in the UK). Also I have noticed that when I am having this problem with freezing the videos sometime just auto skip for the next video event though I could still be in the middle of the episode.

Any help on this is much appreciated.
thanks

What are you watching videos on?

It seems to be doing the non stop buffering for people using XBox lately.

Very frustrating.

You could try changing your DNS to see if this will either route you to a different CDN server, or at least result in a different route to the same server.

OpenDNS offers a guide on how to change your DNS:
https://store.opendns.com/setup/

You can use their guide with any other Domain Name Server numbers, such as Google Public DNS (which CR recommends as a first choice):
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

If one doesn't work, I would try the other. If that doesn't work, you may want to report your issues using the Contact form:

By process of elmination, I would say a computer.

The Roku doesn't have 720p. The Android, iOS, XBOX 360, and PS3 apps don't have any way to select a resolution (and the former two don't offer 720p).

Man, today I do my Saturday evening cartoons and now fairy tail doesn't load. The problem is the same as the person before me and I watched Naruto and hunter x hunter and got the same problem but the vids would at least play after a while. They are not playing at all now. I wouldn't be mad if I didn't just pay my bill the other day. Its not my load internet speed and im tried both my (usual) google tv, and when it didn't work went and tried my ps3...no luck. Is something down with the site maybe?

Maoyu, Inaba, and Problem Children are all constantly freezing up on me. Oreshura is giving me problems too, but it;s not nearly as bad as those 3.

Oh, and HxH, Vividred, and Ixion Saga DT all worked perfectly aside form the usual needs for the refresh.

There is an account option to default videos at a certain resolution assuming they support it. No idea if it uses this account setting via the xbox or ps3 app though.

AFAIK, that only affects when watching Flash video via a web browser.

For me it seems simple.

Either CR doenst have the bandwith to support the growing numbers of prem users or something is really messing with peeps in europe.

I have the same problem over here in germany. My PC is fast enough and my connection too.

We should watch the timeframe more closely. I assume the stuttering begins to occur when people on US Eastcoast begin to flood in the wired. could watch without problems when it was ~12 pm there (noon its called i think). At 1 pm to 2 pm eastcoast CR just dies :(

since someone from the US posted about those problems too it might be the traffic.

Crunchyroll uses Limelight CDN in Europe IIRC (They don't actually stream the shows themselves). I remember reading a comparison article by Microsoft between Akamai (which CR also uses for other parts of the world) and Limelight and their conclusion was that in Europe, Limelight had a fraction of the servers as Akamai, and thus their performance was not as good.

I don't remember how old that article was, I only know that I read it recently. If Limelight is still at a performance disadvantage in Europe, that could explain some of the issues CR members in Europe are having.

Microsoft did say that Limelight's network was a lot more efficient than Akamai (Meaning that they require fewer servers for the same level of performance), and that Limelight would not need to setup as many new servers to get to the point where they can surpass Akamai's performance level.

What good does this information do for a CR member? Absolutely squat, but I just thought it was interesting information to know.

interesting. and the only solutions seems to be patient. i watched 2 naruto eps yesterday when the third one suddenly showed the stuttering. after half an hour i could watch it without problems. i really dont know whats going on. and i dont think its MY job to find it out.

All i know is that i am paying for a premiumstream that does not work half of the time. in combination with the limited number of shows you are able to watch in germany its getting harder to resist just to torrent the hell out of those shows.

Seems to me that they simply don't have enough servers available. I have massive buffering problems at busy times of the day, but can watch shows very late at night with only minor buffering problems (still not acceptable though).

And no, it's not my internet or a problem with my network or anything else on my end, it's a problem on Crunchyroll's end.

They really need to fix this as I won't continue to pay for it if I can't even watch shows when I want to. After all, isn't that the whole point of the service?
