Because educating people would not eliminate racism.

In general people tend to not be comfortable around people that look and act different from themselves and what they are used to being around.

You simply can't legislate people's feelings good or bad because it's a matter of subjectivity and everyone has different views when it comes to what constitutes what's racist and what's not.

Just like this Duke case here. Some people are going to find it completely racist, and some aren't going to feel it's racist but in poor taste, and some are going to view it as not an issue because it's just some kids poking a little fun at another culture.

So what if they are not comfortable? There is no need for that kind of fear, it needs to be eliminated from the human condition. We need to decide on what constitutes racism and teach people why it is not in their best interest to think in this manner.

Oh, some friendly advice... Do not bother with Lordseth23, he is obviously trolling.

Still new here, the amount of idiotic BS posted about religion/government/etc makes me either think everyone is trolling, or actually just 12 year olds.

Thanks for the tip, is there an ignore button on this thing?

Most likely trolling. Anyway, no problem and if you find an ignore button, let me know.

Because you're sitting there saying that "freedom of speech" should be abolished. Why must you play the victim card in every argument you start on here?

Seriously, It's freedom of speech that gives you the right to post the asinine anarcho-fascist bullshit in extended discussion all day.

I don't "hate" you, I just think you're an idiot.

When did I say that "freedom of speech" should be abolished? Why are you putting words into my mouth?
Why don't you kill me if I am an idiot?

I don't see how these people are saying their race is superior to others (which is the very definition of racism.) I do think that they're stereotyping people. They are cheapening them but are not automatically saying they have more respect for themselves.

Then why should we ever express those thoughts in any manner at all? Why can't everybody recognize how detrimental these human stereotypes are and make a conscious effort to forget about them?

Because it's how our brains are programmed, and how they have operated for as long as the human race has been the human race.
We can't just STOP, unless all people were uniformly the same. This is biologic fact.

Also, freedom of speech ROCKS!

I don't agree with this. It is not human nature to lessen or cheapen a person's existence. And your freedom shouldn't affect another person's freedom to live a peaceful and well-respected life, so maybe it's not freedom - maybe it's a person being an asshole in a place that does not call for it.

Your never going to eliminate it from the human condition as it's part of just being human.

As much as we like to think we're far more advanced then we were thousands of years ago we aren't. Humans still feel and act the same way they did when they were wearing togas in Greece.

We're far more knowledgeable today then we were long ago but we're none the wiser for it.

I just said that was impossible. The very way our brain learns is by categorically sorting and comparing new experiences and knowledge with previous experiences and knowledge. The way you can tell something is a "bird" is by comparing it with your ideal version of what a bird is. Most of the time though that ideal version, or prototype, is slightly different than what you are observing in the moment. This process, as I am sure you can tell by now, naturally creates stereotypes out of necessity.

Then why should we ever express those thoughts in any manner at all? Why can't everybody recognize how detrimental these human stereotypes are and make a conscious effort to forget about them?

Expressing stereotypes is how you learn about the world. As such, most of the time they are the opposite of detrimental. Its not so much about what you choose to express as how you go about expressing it.

If you don't want to kill me, then why do you think I am inhuman?

Why are you putting words into my mouth and making memes of me?

I understood what you wrote the first time, but stereotyping races is how you tell them apart. You can't consciously stop yourself from stereotyping races, or anything really, its how you choose to act that defines you. The Duke kids did not go out of their way to belittle the Asian culture, it just happened to be picked as the theme for that party. It was meant as a joke and nothing more. "Asians are smart" is a stereotype that I see many Asians and non-Asians alike joke about on a daily basis. In fact, even on this forum I have seen it, but nobody was up and arms about it then, and everyone is about this? Its called teasing, not racism.

Okay... you're completely missing the point. This may not have intended to be offensive, but it was. If it is offensive and mocking Asian stereotypes, it's racist. Get it? According to you, if I walked up to an Asian and greeted them with "Herro", they shouldn't take offense because I am just 'teasing', not in the least bit being racist.

When did I say you were inhuman? You said you want to "limit free speech" any "limit" is essentially the abolishment of free speech.

I have no idea what you are talking about "making memes of you" I typed in "retarded child" in a search and used the first image that popped up!

You're the one trolling like it's your job, quit sperging out and quit thinking people want to kill you. Seek mental health help.

How do you figure? The only way I could see stereotyping as a way to learn about the world is by someone telling you you're dead wrong and revealing to you the way this person in particular REALLY is..and stereotyping isn't actually what helped you learn; the person who had the decency to express truth and actuality is.

Calling me an idiot is an attempt to make me feel inhuman.

No, limiting something does not mean it is abolished, please stop putting words into my mouth.

Why do you feel the need to be incredibly insensitive? Why do you feel the need to be better than me?
