Why can't Asian artists make it big in America?

It's never played on the radio and the videos aren't shown on TV, except for the asian channels. Mm yea. Here in Finland I've heard Dir en grey on the radio a couple times tho. Well that's great, but I'm talking about America, and so is this thread. |

Dir en grey, Despair'sRay, and Mucc music videos play on MTV's headbanger's ball a lot, and Rain was on TV several times when he first debuted, though a lot of that was due to the lawsuits lol |

I'll wait for the day when I see an Asian video at #1 on TRL, or 106 & Park, or whatever. |

That kind of insinuates that Asian music isn't popular. Are you aware what Forum you're posting to? *COUGHS* CR! |

i think its basically because of the lyrics, cause why would you get really into a song that you have aboslutely no clue what its saying, i listen to jpop songs but it would never be my favourite type of music cause i just have no clue what they are saying, and its not like electronic music where there is only a couple sentences of lyrics.

Actually, I'm in Utah and when DeG came here with the Deftones, they were played on the radio here too. Surprised the hell outta me. |

Most Asian artist sing their songs in their native language for example in Malaysia, Japan and Korea to name a few. It marketable in their own country but not in America where they all speak English even with the slang...in most part. I believe if an asian artist wants to succeed in america they need to have a complete package of talent, looks and good marketable persona and play-time at the radio station.

And I'm sure that was copied off of Starsearch. I'm sure there is a lot of Asian music as well as American that is so-so. And all of my friends have very different tastes in music, ranging from Metal to Rap. You also have to remember that Rap and R&B, as well as Jazz all originated in America. And I'm pretty aware of a lot of asian countries in these modern times that really love that style of music. So, what I'm saying is this. I disagree with that statement that Americans only like popular music. I think we like pretty much ALL music. Even though, I might not particulary share the same interests as other Americans, the statement that we not liking asian music is just plain wrong. How do you define what is American nowadays anyways? English speaking? Caucasian? Not just America but the World as a whole is a mixed lot with culture pouring out of its seams. |

i think its because asians in the U.S are kind of sectioned off amongst themselves, they can be sort of exclusive. So record companies dont see the market appeal in asian artists because they assume it would only be other asian people listening to them, and people wouldnt be interested in trying something different.

Well I think its cuz american people dont appreciate other races besides white or black people. I mean if they saw an asian album in stores they wouldnt even take a glance at they descriminate against it...and dnot appreciate it at all.....I mean but still Bi/Rain had a few concerts that were a huuuge hit...

dude. what's up?

I dont think asian music will be popular in the US unless we all learn to speak chinese, japanese, etc. Also, all the asian singers are not interested or too afraid to come to the US to promote their music because its far away or its too risky. I think most Asian-Americans in the US are mostly interested in pursuing careers like business, law, medicine because it has more future and its safe. most asian parents are always deciding whats best for us, hahaha after I get my bachelors hahahaha.,..I am going my way. But next couple of years we might see some great asian singers, I know that chinese rapper Jin or something like that. I think he is little bit popular.
